Hi PeterK,

Marmes posted an issue regarding BetterWB and the issue involves icon.library. Would you give us a hand?

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=73376

Thanks

Problem is with remlib and CS MK3 together. With Loadmodule works fine.
Maybe we should ask Thomas now

Did you already try to call RemLib without >NIL: to see a possible error message?

RemLib icon.library
Ask Continue?

Usually, RemLib should say:
icon.library resident removed

Indeed, only Thomas Rapp may help you concerning the internal features and maybe some limitations of RemLib. And I don't have any CS MK3 to analyze this special problem. In general, RemLib works very well and I'm glad that Thomas has written this tool.

Btw, on any system with a better CPU than 68010 it's recommended to install the 68020 version of icon.library to get more speed, support for gfx cards and better quality, etc.

I tried it.
Just remlib doesn't crash.
But when I type remlib icon.library or any other library it crashes.
I use the 020 version btw.

This just happens with CSMK3 not others.

Thanks PeterK

@Marmes
Anyway, I believe your hardware is somehow failing: that comment about the RTC stopping is a proof that something bizarre is going on.

What do you mean by "crash"? Just instant reboot, or actual crash with software failure number - if so, what is the error number? Do you have your CSMK3 configured to load kickstart into FastRAM?

Maybe you should consider building custom kickstart and load it with Blizkick?

Update to icon.library 46.4.477:

Added the option "KillPlanarImages" to replace the old images of color icons and NewIcons by pointers to the internal 4-color images or a simple black dot if ChipMem is used for blitting. This option can save dozens or a few hundred kB of memory consumption when loading lots of color icons. By default this option is disabled and only tiny planar images with up to 8 pixels width or with more than 8 colors are replaced. Real old icons or MWB icons are never replaced. I also added an option KeepPlanarImages, but that is only required if you've enabled the killing and want to stop it again. On OS 3.9 you can simply test this new option by disabling color icons in Prefs/Workbench.

Update to icon.library 46.4.478:

The memory saving with "KillPlanarImages" was not optimal on AGA screens in 477 and copying did always replace the planar images in color icons. This is fixed now.

New Bug 476 ---> 478

Now def_disk.info icon (in OD3.5 format) is displayed with borders for disks without icon under DO5 when it is assigned to them. Borderless setting is set for WB and for DO5 custom settings. Info on the icon shows all ok, but info on same icon temporary assigned to empty disk show this setting set as display borders! Reverting to older build restors everything.

PS: I am using the lib as a rom module, so maybe some routines are protected against temporary changes in rom memory. Maybe this has some ill effects too on the other issues that showed up recently.

The bug fixing should be done now, as I hope ...
... icon.library 46.4.479 has been released at Aminet:

Update to icon.library 46.4.480:

There was another bug in 477-479. In some cases the flag for the 2. planar image was set even though there was only one image. Thus, some programs tried to read from a Null pointer for the 2. image.

Update to icon.library 46.4.481:

This is a fix for some color problems with ArtEffect4 in combination with FullPalette and DOpus5.

Uploaded 46.4.481 to Aminet

With v.46.4.481 i encountered a strange problem on OS3.9 "standard" with applications launched by WBStartup, see screenshot

EDIT:

The problem is only present on WinUAE if JIT is active

What means OS 3.9 "standard"? Is that without BB2?
What is your WinUAE version?
Please upload your WinUAE configuration file.
Which OS 3.9 screenmode settings?

Try a "Wait 2" before IPrefs.

Btw, please don't publish direct links to my icon.library test versions in other forums. These links will soon become dead links. Post a link to first page of this thread instead. Thank you!

Has DONOTWAIT been set in the applications icon tooltypes? (Becomes a wait until finished tick box in WBInfo) JIT should make no difference to this though...

Yes there is "DONOTWAIT" otherwise I would have had the same error without JIT

I think I discovered the culprit, it seems that JIT + Z3 Fast Ram create the problem (it does not happen with previous versions of the icon.library, even if there are other graphic problems)
