Got mine in the middle of December in 1991, short before X-Mas. At that time the A500+ was brand new on the market, but due to rumoured compatibility problems it was a slow seller. I for myself decided to buy a good old reliable A500, a 512K SlowRAM expansion, a Phillips monitor, 2 joysticks and a few boxes of 3.5" disks.

My first Amiga was bought in 2001: a NOS Magic Pack Escom AT1200 from Eyetech with 170MB IDE hard drive and 4-way buffered IDE interface providing an external ATAPI CD-ROM socket connected to the secondary channel.

I got mine in 1991.04.27. We had to travel across the country for it, and even my father cheated a bit as he said we'll go for fishing, so I prepared myself for that. Only the early morning of this great day he told me the truth: I can get my brand new A500, RF and 0.5 MB expansion!
Sad thing that I got only half year of warranty and in the 7th month it started to become unstable. Graphical glitches, etc. I had to open it with in a pc service and the error then turned out, all the socketed chips weren't correctly in their place, all have had to be pushed in. It meant that I had to break the warranty label... :I |

First Amiga I owned was an a600. I bought it as soon as it was released (actually I pre-purchased it before it was released). I used to be over a friends house every weekend the few years prior playing his a500 however!. He even lent it to me a few weekends.

I bought my first Amiga, a very yellowed 500, on 9 december 2012.
Since then I have been buying, restoring and modding A600's and A1200's. Even learning some more about electronics and soldering techniques with recapping and fixing small problems. Guess I'm enjoying my midllife crisis by buying and playing with old hardware |

1990 for me, what a golden year that was. It was 2nd hand though, but I loved it just as much as if it was new
Still took about 3 months before I got my first "real" games though :/ |

Thanks to all participants!
I refer to my brother´s Amiga as my first Amiga. He got it in 1987, but I was using it all the time, so much so that he was totally nerved. He gave it to me many years later. Now you understand my phrasing in the start post to this thread. I am impressed that the numbers go on constantly all through the Commodore times. Would be glad if the 1985 pioneers could tell a bit how that was back then. Edit: Oh the poll is not closed for the future. Vote on! Last edited by Zak; 09 December 2013 at 23:29. |

Got my A2000 with an A2088 bridgeboard in 1988 from Vobis in Germany. Then I bought a C-Ltd SCSI controller in NY during my trip to the USA in 1988 and a very expensive 50 MB SCSI HDD which failed to work after one year already.

A1000 with 1081 monitor in January 1987! A few days earlier and I would have been the first entry for 1986.

July '87, Amiga 500 (red power LED, Kick 1.2, engraved C= logo), was a birthday present from my grandfather and I still thank him for this (he died some years ago). Now, more than 25 years later I work in the IT and all started with this birthday present.

Traded in my C64 for the Amiga 500 Screengems Pack, Feb '91
I miss her so much *sob* She was traded in for the Amiga 1200, June '93 we did have an Amiga 1000 in the house, '86 - because it wasn't mine... I didn't want to touch it, not because I wasn't allowed... just it wasn't mine and I didn't want to let myself get into it... happily playing my C64 |

Batman pack, 1989. Dad bought it from the UK on a work trip and took it back in his suitcase. Didn't get caught in customs and it was a lot cheaper than in .fi. :-D
