Hello Amigons...
How do I format an internal HD? I want to clean it of every program, how do I do this? There are also partitions created, how do I retunr the machine to one HD? (one partition!). Thanks |

You have to use the HDToolbox program, you can find it in the Install disk, or in SYS:Tools/HDToolbox
It will let you repartition and all that. I am not sure if you haev to do a low-level format as well... Anyway, I recomemnd you installing cleanly from the Workbench disks. This will repartitionate and all. |

Low-Level Format
WARNING! Don't touch low-level format in HDToolBox! I don't think it is very good for the hard disk. Can anyone confirm this or not?
In HDToolBox, go to the partitioning section, delete all the partitions and make on big one. Add a name for it. In Workbench, use the Format command (not low-level format in Workbench). However, partitions are good, as you can have a Workbench partition which will not be affected if other partitions get invalidated. |

From what i remember, only IDE disks must not be low-level formatted (unless you want to throw them at the bin) while there is no risk for SCSI disks.
I don't know if this is still true with the newest IDE disks. |

The best thing is to reformat everything using the INstall disk, as I said. I cant remember if I low-level formatted my IDE, I think not. If the Install proggy does it, then yes. If not, I didnĀ“t.

Hope this helps
If I remember rightly if you are using Workbench 2.5, you
1. Insert and bootup with the Install disk 2. Open this disk and run Format HD N.B. If you want to re-partition and setup your HD to the Factory defaults then run PrepHD. Use this at your OWN RISK With Workbench 3.1, you 1. Insert and bootup with the Install disk 2. Open this disk If you want to change the number partition you will need to run HDToolbox, in the HDTools dir, (Use this at your OWN RISK) and make your HD into one drive. N.B. I do not remember how to use HDToolbox as I had an A600HD with WB2 and used PrepHD. I have only re-partitioned my big, I mean small, 20mb HD once. So Someone else will have to tell you how to use HDToolbox. Now open dir HDSetup and run language (e.g. english) and select partition option. I am a bit stuck now but I think you then open dir Install and run language (e.g. english). Removed screenshot Last edited by Ian; 14 October 2001 at 23:09. |

HDToolbox is very easy to use IMO, you shouldnt have a problem with it. IF you do hit a brick wall, lemme know.

I may be wrong, but isn't PrepHD the program that comes with GVP controllers?

I've seen it in my 2.05 WB disks as well, but I think it's not to be used with the internal IDE drive.
