I see you guys have been identifying problems with a lot of sets in ADF Games, with most being some kind of bad dump, right?
Just to have some kind of notion, my question is if there are original (without errors) versions of all these games or not and to what extend are these bad dumps affected - are they unplayable, crash, some possible gfx errors, an so on.

I have posted here(with screenshots) some examples, where the result of this doscopy is visible, when playing the game.
Maybe in some cases this type of corruption is not noticeable, when playing the whole game, i have not the time to play every single game.

Thanks. Just saw the gfx in "Blast <something>", these identified problems can in some cases (or most since nobody is playing/testing them all to find out) introduce visible/audible errors that really affect the software.

May i suppose that for some of these cases we don't have original, 100% preserved sets?

It's great to see such progresses and get the infinite alternates correctly renamed

Some progress is done.
Another problem:
I do not agree to replace [b checksum error] with [errdms].
If the disk is a real DOS DISK, i prefer to use [b checksum error], if any file is affected, but i have said it before, if i remember right.

Personally I prefer [b corrupt file]. On FFS disk, there is no "checksum error" (This is just a visible consequence on OFS)!

Apologies for butting in here, but Crashdisk's preference is more elegant IMHO for the reason he has given.

It seems all US-versions have this issue.
Stormlord (1989)(Spotlight)(US)[cr SR - Valhalla].adf
is also not original "SR" release, this set has also another issue, which causes the game to crash.
I have also added now original "SR" release, it is also dos-copied, but probably no noticeable effect, when playing the game.

Given the fact that the two derived versions have from the same defect, we can assume that there is no correct version of [cr SR - Valhalla] (and maybe even the original?), so [f] is appropriate.

Have also checked the WHDLOAD installed version of Stormlord NTSC, they used also TOSEC version
Stormlord (1989)(Spotlight)(US)[b doscopy]
its the same Diskimage.
Either the NTSC version was unprotected or someone has removed "SR - Valhalla" text from the image to claim it as Original or unmodified.

or any more suitable descriptor?

correction only concerns damages caused by doscopy so it would be logical to indicate.

Another example, that a doscopy on NDOS disk destroys the game:

Is it always related with being a doscopy on NDOS? :P

100% sure.
In the examples i have posted, the reason for the corruption is always a dos-copied NDOS disk.
I have compared against the good version(playing both).

=> [v Virus Amor v1.0]

It's a "unknown" bootblock virus. It seems that the virus was introduced by the release crc ff48fe04 and others are only virus mutations. I have not found other disks infected by this virus.
Note: Requires slow RAM (it did not help to be popular ^^ ) and damages rootblock (eg change disk name "Ana_Laura") :-(

Good job again.

BTW:I am now able to recognize dos-copied NDOS disks manually.
Do you have created tool to recognize this type of error
automatical?

Mai, in case you haven't seen the "For 9 years stuck in Leander" thread.

Disk 2 of the Melnok crack is a bad image.

@Crashdisk: Are you busy with Demos dats?
If so, please grab "Party Remix 1990" from my private FTP.
Someone has uploaded this images and told me, that this version is error-free, unlike the versions currently in TOSEC:

Quote:
TOSEC Version (wie alle im Netz) hat Fehler:
Disk 1: "911 is a Joke" Samples teilweise fehlerhaft z.B. "Don't believe the hype"
Disk 2: "Rich in Paradise" lädt nicht

Party Remix 1990.zip enthält fehlerfreie Images
