I remember buying CE1 in the shops on release day it was definitely only available in ECS form, some months later it came out on AGA... I also remember the announcment in Amiga Format...

They could of been designing the AGA version at the same time ECS version, I guess someone will have to ask them?

Not possible. I found a preview in ACE from November 1991:

Chaos Engine was developed for OCS/ECS and got an AGA update later. Like Retro-Nerd already said. Really no doubt about it.

I think the game originally was designed for Atari ST with only 16 colors and after enhaced to 32 colors on Amiga,so really is even more limited in color originally.

I believe Defender of the Crown was also created for AGA and then scaled back.

Awesome!

I can also second we had the OCS/ECS version of CE1 for sale, and the AGA version came nearly a year later, I think it was even after Christmas. At least there was a huge gap between both.

anyways to get the idea....it is much more simple create graphics in 256 colors then degrade it to 32
or do you think developers are so dumb to make a huge effort to re-colorize all the graphics when they had the plans to port it to another platforms like PC and superNES where graphics are 256
The game was created in 1993 after long time AGA was available
in fact.... all games developed after 1992 after AGA ...the AGA version was the first one and original

Dude, you're an idiot. The game was started in 1991. It was RELEASED in 1993. It wasn't written and published within five minutes at the start of the year.

Anyway, I don't know why I'm arguing as you are Laser and I claim my five pounds. That's yet another ban for a duplicate account...

Alright, the following means that clauddio can just shut up. I emailed Mike Montgomery (Code), Dan Malone (Graphics) and Jon Hare (who recently made the SB2 re-release for iOS happen, so assumed he might have had some insight, too).

Here's feedback from all three of them. Maybe someone of HOL can take a note and make sure this gets added to the game's entry? Just to avoid such discussion in the future...

Oh, and I thanked the boys for their reply.
