Download the preinstalled WHDLoad SWOS 96/97 and copy the update files into the data folder. Also overwrite the "SWOS2" file with the new one.

Edit: just noticed that you get an illegal instruction error, if you overwrite the old "SWOS2"file. Use the old SWOS2 file then.

Though a few leagues could crash the game then(*). Maybe Galahads new patch will fix it, so that the new SWOS2 update file will work properly.

FAQ3: So why do I have to replace SWOS2/sws.exe as well as the data files?

The original game had 1996-97 season league structures (ie Serie A = 18 teams). The current data has different league structures (ie Serie A = 20 teams), and if the game is not expecting these changes, it will crash. At the end of a season in career mode, and in some other places. So the main game file also needs to be replaced. Without the new file, many parts of the game will not work.

No, it only works with the WHDLoad version of SWOS 96/97.

@lolafg: so why don't you use "normal" (non WHD) version of SWOS 96/97 installed on hdd (available at http://sensiblesoccer.de)? Just extract files from hdf fileimage with for example: Total Commander plugin (AmigaDX) or under WinUAE or under real Amiga with TSGui (downloaded from Aminet) and copy updated files, replacing old. As far I remember I did it with old 2008 update downloaded from Synchronated site and test it under Kaillera. And ofcourse there was no problem with it.

It may work with a custom HD install, but from what i've read ages ago you can't put it back on ADF Images. Probably not enough disk space for the enhanced/updated leagues/teams.

SWOS Upgrade

Hello,

So after getting FS-UAE working yesterday, i have today discovered that some clever person has updated Sensible World of Soccer with the players from the 2012/13 season. Amazing.

I got a Hard Drive version of SWOS 96/97. I tested and it works. This is a zip file. In this zip file is a folder called data and a program file. I extracted, changed these for the updated versions that i have downloaded, and re archived. Now when i try and run i just get an error: exception, illegal instruction.

Is this because i am just running rather than installing the hard drive version? is it to do with the update? or is this something stupid i am doing?

thank you very much

Probably not related to FS-UAE at all.

But see this thread, which seems to discuss the same issue:

Send a message via MSN to fitzsteve
Personally I like the original players, feels more nostalgic when you score a blinding volley with Alan Shearer

Do you think they will update all the teams to 2013-01-31?

Pretty sure i read that it just gets updated once a year in October, although i may have dreamt that.

I emailed the guy who does the updates, he uses windows and tells me it definatly works on WinUAE, although i dont have windows so cant do this. Has anyone got the updated version working through any linux emulator?
thanks
