Entire run of CU Amiga magazine scanned and online

Archive.org has scanned what I think is the entire run of CU Amiga Magazine, back to March 1990:

WOW! This is great news! I can't believe the entire scan is 100MB - just downloading a sample to see if quality that good!

This and the various versions they offer is quite impressive. They must have some pretty powerful behind all this, especially in the OCR department.

I will try the version for Kindle next time I transfer files to mine.

Amazing interface. This page of The Lost Patrol review is hilarious when you click the "listen to audio" button and hear the female voice read out a bunch of foreign characters or hex codes!

You can do the same at home

, just grab the text version of the scan:
http://archive.org/stream/cuamiga-ma..._1990_djvu.txt
and use it with a TTS program.

It is the OCRed text that serves as a basis for the audio and search feature (for example, search for OQEl that you can find in the text version but does not make sense in English).

Still, I find it technically impressive how they manage to link the scanned page (images) with the OCRed text.

That's really good - I wonder if they will do other Amiga mags, Amiga Format would be great... it's such fun to look through these old mags again - you never know what tutorials or interesting reviews crop up that you cant remember...

Was there a copy of the Wordworth update from 7.0 to 7.1 on the CU Amiga cover disks, or was that Amiga Future? If so, which one (CU or AF - either way.)

AFCD52 has an index of all issues of their CDs. in folder "\+System+" there is "Find" tool and Indices folder. so you can search through the whole AFCD collection.
did so and only could find Wordworth 7.01 update on AFCD52 itself (aminet got 7.01 too).

Thats pretty cool! Reading the PDF of the last CU Amiga issue right now. Drooling over the kit in the power computing ad. If only some of that kit was still widely available now.

Tried that earlier (the mobi version, I might give the epub version later but I don't have much hope).

So to all Kindle and similar devices, don't bother with those.
It is basically the text version with images put here and there related to the text pages.
I guess the OCR system scanned the pages, cut the images without text and appended the text that can be found around them on the original pages.

that's brilliant! i love that they kept the adverts.

I've just started collecting CU Amiga magazines with the covedisks as to be honest AMR wasn't quite cutting it for me.

I think I may be able to help though. Most of my magazines have barely yellowed at all. I was lucky enough to pick some up from someone that knows how they should be store properly and i've now done the same and put them in Mylar

There really needs to be a new word invented to accurately describe how utterly awesome archive.org is, there is are not the words available. More people should know about this site. I only discovered it recently myself, I think I can honestly say that it is the best site in the entire interweb! except EAB of course ;o)
