yes that's him and I wonder will I ever buy anything from anyone else except him. There is no chance to beet him. I just wonder how much time will pass until people stop exploiting Amiga scene. Let's track now how much this A1200 will cost in few days!

He is great to deal with, I have bought many items from him and he is very reasonable and his shipping prices are very fair.

What's the problem? He won an auction fair and square; he didn't even snipe, unlike the second-highest bidder! I've found him very fair to deal with.

This is a pointless thread. He paid what it was worth. If you wanted it, pay more. Simples.

He also does some good in that he offers lots of small parts that are sourced by breaking faulty machines. Personally I'd rather pay him a couple of quid rather than buy a whole new KB just for one or two dodgy keys

With the crazy amount of sales he's doing I can imagine he does nothing but scour auction sites and collecting and posting parcels. I don't think he has time nor inclination to bother with electronic fault-finding and repairs, and might literally smash a machine to bits which only needs a capacitor replaced or something like that.

He's trying to control the market, and its making everything more expensive. great if you want values to remain high, crap if you want a bargain.

IE you will pay what he wants you to pay, or else he wins it, repackages the system with a couple of crap games, some magazines and a relokick disk, and puts it back on the market for a 30-80 quid markup.

So hes a professional ebayer, and a parasite in my view.

He's just making a living, I'm sure he has a family to feed and this is his chosen way to put food on the table.

If he bought and sold old cars and split (brake) them for parts would that make him a parasite or just because he sells Amiga's?

I really don't get this outright hatred of anyone who makes a little profit in the oh holy name of Amiga.

All Amiga's and indeed any retro kit do not belong to the community and you can not expect them to be free or cheap when you want them, sadly.

IMHO Airey is the most honest and decent of the Traders I have come across, yes it's frustration when he outbids but he does it (AFAIK) legitimately.

At least he's not selling pirate roms and repacking Classic Workbench on a 4gb CF for £40 a time with pirate WHDLoad keys, they are closer in my view to the parasites

I really think we should give Tony a break...

i think there are lots of amiga sellers on ebay at the moment all doing exactly the same thing.

for the most part its all second hand and you get what you pay for......

i have had stuff of tony, not all of it was working but it dident really bother me that much.......i do realise hes not an engineer, but he trys to sort out problems to his best ability.

and i agree with fitzsteve here, there are worse sellers about.......alot worse.

EDIT:for what its worth he is a member of this board, just like some of the other sellers on ebay......

I didnt say I hated him, I'd just prefer it if he wasnt trying to monopolise the 2nd hand amiga market.

The car market is different, but I know of parasites there too. I also know of breakers who do the classic car community a service.

If one person came along bought all of a model of car on ebay (eg MGB) and either scrapped them or resold them with a markup then they would get a similarly negative reputation in the MGB community.

sorry but i dont think the car market is any different to the classic computer market.

i.e second hand parts and cars as a whole, there will be good, bad and cars scrapped for parts working or not for high prices or not.i think fitzsteve made a good analogy there.

as for the parasite thing well...........are we all parasites then? when bidding on retro gear.

I don't really understand the problem. He sells stuff on Ebay, people pay whatever they feel like paying for it. And the car market is exactly the same, f.e. in the Golf MK1 scene there are a few people who buy lots of parts only to sell them later with (a lot of) profit. And I bought from these people too and don't have a problem with that. I think about the maxium price I am willing to pay before I am about to buy anything. If it's more expensive than that I just don't buy it.

I don't see the point of this thread. The guy is selling legitimate products (including some rare pieces of vintage hardware) for prices I would consider reasonable. Many are auctioned, and the prices they sell for are actually not that bad.

I've missed out on a few things, but then again, I was merely looking for a mega bargain but should know better with all those Amiga fans waiting to snatch it away by paying that little bit extra lol (though I do late the last 5 second snipers!!)

I have received noting but good service from him. A lot of times, even with shipping to Canada, he is cheaper than what people want for a A1200 over here.
Got an A1200 about a month ago from him and it was fine, I got it in 3 days to Canada.
The NTSC suff is much worse for pricing:look here
I actually me this guy and he is absolutely insane with his pricing and trys to get me to fix his stuff for auction.
This was his last A1200 and just look at the condition, not to mention the ribbon cable coming out the top. I can't honestly believe he actually sold this machine for the buy it now price. I think he got one of his buddies to "buy" it

I looked through many of his auctions and they seem very fairly priced. Often among the lowest on ebay for buyout.
I had a burnt A600 PSU, and I bought a working PCB for £1 from him. That can hardly be considered expensive. :-)

I bought some cables today and it happened to be him. I thought the price was perfect.

His prices are average. But even when there's is competition on ebay selling for less I prefer to buy from him because I actually know the item will arrive quickly and without problems, which can't be said for many other sellers on ebay...

I don't understand your point at all. Pay more for what? He doesn't seem to have bad prices, specially on BIN items. And if people rack up auction bids its their own fault and the price only reflects the demand on ebay for such items.

Well I at least do kinda agree with you grobda.

Unfortunately most markets have people trying to control (or corner) them in such a way. A centuries old tactic I guess, just a fact of life.

my original post was merely a light hearted comment, it was in no means meant as derogatory, malicious or offensive in anyway shape or form, yes the guy runs a business and yes he does have to make a living, as do we all, now saying that ...
