Using more features would mean having more IOs. Zeus68k uses _all_ of them, there is not a single pin unused. Within these boundaries, you can do whatever you like. Whatever control you would like to have... you have an FPGA between the board, the processor and the RAM. That's why there are so many features already in it.

7 plus pages of messages about this project. Can anyone summarize where it stands now and what I have to do to get on the list of people who wants to order one for my CDTV?
Any pictures of how it will fit into the CDTV available anywhere? Is there a website for this project setup somewhere already? Sorry I didn't have time to look through all 7 pages of messages here on this topic.

Is this selectable?
Anyhow, I would be interested in one for my CDTV actually, if it fits (because of the cover).

Thanks mr. vince for the summary and extra info.
Please put me on any list you might have as someone who is interested in buying at least one of these accelerators. I will try to visit this thread more often to see if there is any new information available.

Anyone willing to make a guess about the little hardware sitting there in the back of this A500, with the Zeus68k installed over it?

. What about action replay sitting at $400000, can you get around the conflicts to get action replay 3 working ?

Wow, this is really awesome news!
Not for me personally, unfortunately, because I only use A1200s but this is still brilliant. Maybe you could do one for an A600 that goes in the trapdoor slot? Are there any pictures of it actually attached to the motherboard? I don't see how it connects from looking at the pictures. |

oh yes I see that on the prototype, but the real thing seems only to have contacts with no pins soldered in?
I didn't realise until looking it up just now exactly how limited the A600's trapdoor expansion slot was, it seems you have no access to CPU signals there oh well. Apparently accelerator cards had to piggy back the CPU, how they managed that on a surface-mount chip I don't know. |

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm curious why some of these new accelerators are using derivatives of the old 68000 cpu vs 68030/68040/68060?
Is this a case where the 68000 is still in production and easily obtainable due to it's use in embedded systems, and the other CPU's are not being produced? Or, is it a case where implementation of the 32bit model cpu's increases the cost/complexity by a wide margin? |

All the 680x0 series are internally 32 bit, it's only the external interface that differs. If anything, dropping down to 16 bit for 32 bit data access should be the more difficult!
Physical 68000s are still available new, I think. All the others are increasingly difficult to get hold of. |

You can still purchase certified new 680x0 from various distributors, but the prices are very high. The 68EC060RC50 f.ex costs like €90 a piece.

Ah yes, but how much is that in euros
![]() Anyway, be it 90 EUR or 90 EUR, it is still cheap. How much could the rest of the card cost, 200 EUR ? 300 ? Still ok. Of course, the know-how could be a bigger hurdle here. Not so easy to scrap together such a card.

Yes but this is the EC, which has neither the MMU nor the (limited) FPU. This is the cheapest one at almost €100 which was my point - they're insanely expensive. If you want the 68060RC50 which has both MMU and FPU then you're looking at several hundreds of euros.
