Help on how to install CWB39 to Existing 3.9 OS
Hi
Hopefully this is a stupid question with a simple answer... Please don't flame me or tell me to use search/google as I've been reading about this all week and am still confused. Regarding the A1200 in my sig - I have OS3.9 and BB1/2 installed on a 4GB CF drive all working OK. I've been trying to install CWB39 over this installation - it has files, drivers, etc. already installed that I want to keep.. Basically http://classicwb.abime.net/classicwe...ctionsos39.htm is confusing to me. I'm using WinUAE on my PC to boot the real amiga's CF card via a USB adapter, which works OK. I have the System.hdf loaded as DH1... The Install CWB icon appears on the Workbench, and I can run it, and perform the CWB setup OK. However, it makes System.hdf the CWB39 workbench partition - I thought it would apply CWB to DH0 (the real 1200 CF install)... (plus the new CWB install does not have any of my old files). I've read about the System.zip and using the ADF for an alternative method, but it didn't work out very well. I tried to create a System.zip of my real amiga's 3.9 CF drive but DOPUS doesn't have the ZIP button present so got a bit stuck... I also read on a EAB thread that you can "copy System.hdf contents over your existing 3.9 install" - tried that using a HDF copy of my CF but it didn't seem to work... Any tips would be most appreciated ![]() THANKS

hi mate have a look at my guide in my sig
it makes System.hdf the CWB39 workbench partition, yes it does do this just copy the files to a drawer on the system hdf then you have a copy what are the other files you have on your system? the drivers will need to be reinstalled from your set up disks the indy driver just copy to the new monitor drawer

Hi Johnim
Yes already bookmarked your PDF guide, thanks. To answer your question - 'I don't know' The complication I have is I bought my 4GB CF and IDE adapter from Amigakit.co.uk, I also bought an EasyNET Ethernet, Indivision Mk2 and FastATA IV from them. They offered to pre-install OS3.9 for me (I proved to them I own an OS3.9 CD already) and "install all of the software that comes with your other purchases". It also has some kind of splashscreen/bootloader thing that says Amigakit during boot up. Therefore, I don't know what customisations or extra files (AllegroCDFS for example) have been pre-installed for me, so wanted to preserve my OS3.9 base install when going to CWB39... If that makes sense. I'm a total noob when it comes to Workbench so wanted to play safe.I did email Amigakit earlier this week to ask for confirmation as to what had been done post-install but haven't had a reply yet. From what I can actually tell it would appear various installers/files have been copied over but not actually installed... In which case preserving the current install perhaps isn't important, but I can't be sure and would prefer not to nuke my otherwise functional OS3.9 CF disk (don't have any other cards). Any ideas appreciated - otherwise maybe I will have to buy a second CF card (unfortunately don't think I'll be able to get one this weekend) and try properly following your PDF guide.

OK me again. So earlier I went to ASDA and to my amazement picked up a 4GB SanDisk Ultra CF disk for a tenner (was the last one too!).
Using Johnim's guides, I have used SFS to partition the CF. I've then followed the CWB39 guide and have a shiny CWB39 System.hdf OS. I'm now trying to follow Johnim's guide on "how to transfer your system" - to get it on the CF - my problem is when I add both the System.hdf and the CF drive to the WinUAE Hard Drives page, WinUAE just shows a black screen and nothing ever boots. I've played around with the boot order and it doesn't help. If I remove one or the other then the system boots. I've tried adding the CF drive in to the running CWB39 HDF but it won't appear on the Workbench. The CF has a 500MB SFS DH0: System partition and a 3.5GB SFS DH1: Work partition. My CWB39 System.hdf is called System, but I've told WinUAE to use DH3: to avoid conflict. Any suggestions on how I can get it to start up? Page 5 of the transfer PDF guide is where things go wrong for me. ![]()

Replying to myself again - but just to save others the time - It's taken all day but I now have myself a working CWB39 CF disk that will run on WinUAE and A1200 properly. Just customising it now
Cheers ![]()

I narrowed it down to either (1) Windows didn't eject unmount it properly or my card reader was dodgey or (2) my PSU isn't up to the job (using 25W original PSU on a phat system atm)...
I had a cup of tea and let the system cool down, booted the CF in WinUAE again (rebooted PC system etc.) and ejected it again, and it booted OK. I also found my CWB39 is fairly slow to boot and I just had a black screen for almost 60 seconds while it boots..
