How bad is the shortage and has anyone come up with a replacement solution?

I guess I haven't heard of a shortage if in fact there really is one.
Push come to shove, we could take a CPLD or even small FPGA and reproduce the functionality fairly easily. ala http://www.fpgaarcade.com/parts.htm or http://www.fpgaarcade.com/ttl_replacement.htm |
