Okay guys, thanks for all the tips!

I found exactly the same Vanish stuff from the supermarket, and for the thickener I chose Corn Starch (not corn flour) --- I assume that it will work fine.

Getting the Hydrogen Peroxide and glycerine from the apothecary tomorrow, and then it's "Good bye brown Miggy, hello white..." dum di dum dum ...

Good luck . I didn't use glycerine, for what it's worth.

@ Andymiga

You may need to warm the solution to get the corn starch to gel; if you follow Tezza's method in the Wiki you won't go far wrong. I think Corn Starch may need a little heat, try 15 seconds in the microwave to help things along. Glycerine is optional but I found it helped when I use Xanthan Gum.

We want before and after pictures though; we need lots of hardware pr0n....

Okay, thanks.

What about the Hydrogen Peroxide though ... I think I can only get 3% and perhaps also 30% here. Is 3% too "thin"? (I assume 30% is too strong, although I guess I could add water to it...?)

The optimum is 10 to 15% strength - that's about 35 to 40 Volume (they usually express it this way, as Volumes). 12% is used to bleach hair and can be called Developer; they won't sell stronger than 12% for bleaching hair. 6% strength is sold as an antiseptic and would work but may take a little longer. 35% is sold industrially and needs a lot of dilution before use.

Don't go stronger than 15% peroxide, or you risk attacking the the ABS polymer which will leave a white "bloom" on the surface.

Any suggestions as to what paint to get that gives good results on plastic?
I realize this was posted a while back, but I've managed to get very good results with a brand named Hobby Colors which I got in Stockholm.

@ kipper2k

Hmmm, corn starch is used to thicken gravy, so it should have worked; did you use glycerine in your mixture?

Hi Merlin,

Yup, used glycerine, i was unable to get Xanthum gum anywhere. I was able to track down some Arrowroot so i will try again this weekend. Its tough to find anything here in Churchill Manitoba with its one store and 200 Polar Bears lol
