  • Nice gfx and tune
So, what else do you expect from a game?? What would be a good improvement in your opinion??
I would like it to be fun but that's just me I guess

Seriously though, I played Turrican extensively when it was in the Super League and I only played it for the sake of the competition, I didn't hate it but I can't say I enjoyed it much either. Just having those features you listed above doesn't make a game good on its own.

IMO Turrican & Turrican II were in fact underrated by a couple of magazines that gave it a score below 90%. Anything below 90% for these games at that time is ridiculous.

I remember in Germany my favorite mag "ASM" rated Turrican II "10 out of 12" which is definitely too low considering its technical brilliance (they later rated Turrican 3 "12 out of 12").

Still many mags rated the games rightfully higher than 90%.

About Gods (as response to previous posts): I dislike its adapting difficulty which throws unfair enemy formations at you when you play well and gives you free lives when you suck. Also the scrolling sucks.
But the level design is indeed very good (better than Turrican) and the graphics style awesome.
This makes it a great game and by no means overrated.

Here's my list of overrated games:

- Agony
- Alien Breed games
- Ruff 'n Tumble
- Xenon 2

And that's it.

But what does? Lets try to define it

I like SOTB 2 and Diggers - self mutilating masochist!

Hehe, now we also have an 'underrated' opinion on Turrican This one along with Gods and the Team 17 games are the 'hottest' candidates for this discussion.
Btw : I think 12/12 for Turrican 3 is overrated

Yes - that's overrated. Mega Turrican is in every way superior except sound. It's still a very good game on the Amiga.

Apparently people did not like Team17 games because they were well done and well polished. (not from Poland )

For the game from that time to say it was cartoonish while a lot of other games had multiple dots representing your character is crazy imho. SuperFrog was playable, looked nice, had nice music and sound effects, well designed levels and nice gambling mini game.Intro, game and outro are well connected and the game it self is great. Anything bellow 90% for this one is udner-rating this great gem.

I don't like Team17 games 'cause they are too difficult: Project X, Alien Breed, etc... you must use a cheat to finish them! :|

Difficult or challenging??

I'm bad gamer, but I completed some of Team 17 games. (and no, not special editions of the games)

I liked look and playability of their games.

Alien Breed : Really great two player game. Not so much fun alone though.

Project X : Great Shoot 'em Up and cool extra weapon system

Both really hard games, but like I said in another thread, these are great while you play, so you don't have to complete them to have fun

I also agree on Agony and Xenon 2 but IMHO Ruff'n Tumble is one of the best shoot'em ups created.

Must? I finished all the Alien Breeds without using cheats. I think Project X is the toughest one but any other Team17 game is to be finished without cheats. Just a matter of practice.

After I saw Retroplay's longplay of ProjectX I played it until I completed the game. There are some tricks I've copied from Retroplay for bosses, but the game is not impossibly hard.

I don't see how Agony is overrated, it got pretty bad marks in the magazines I've seen.

Agony Reviews from HOL:

Amiga Action 29 (Feb 1992) 86% Alan Bunker
Amiga Format 35 (Jun 1992) 60%
Amiga Joker Feb 1992 81% Richard Löwenstein
Amiga Magazine 16 (Jul - Aug 1992) 7/10 Metin Seven
Amiga Mania Jun 1992 62% Paul Rigby
Amiga Power 13 (May 1992) 78% Stuart Campbell
CU Amiga Feb 1992 85% Mat Regan
Datormagazin No 10 (May 1992) 80% Pia Wester
Génération 4 39 (Dec 1991) 93% Frank Ladoire
MegaZone 23 (Aug - Sep 1992) 88% Tim Smith
Svenska Hemdatornytt No 6 (Jun 1992) 73% Wanloo
The One 41 (Feb 1992) 84% Jools Watsham
Zero 30 (Apr 1992) 87% Amaya Lopez

Those scores up to 73% are okay - but the rest is too high.

Well - I didn't really give the game a chance because its terrible scrolling makes my eyes bleed.
