So.. amiga is "dead" is it?

I just had a look at the latest additions to Aminet.....

and came across the following line
<package name> <ver><directory> <downloads>
BasiliskII_mos.lha 1.0 misc/emu 5733

Now.... it was uploaded just a few days ago..... and already nearly 6000 downloads..... So there must be a good few around with MorphOS.

OR, alternatively, Bippy is downloading 120 times per hour just to make it look good :P

Ok, 6000 downloads is rather impressive but:

a) the Amiga is commercially dead and has been for over a decade;

b) MorphOS isn't anything to do with "real" Amigas, i.e. the actual hardware. Just as AmigaOS 4 isn't, really.

As I've said before, it doesn't matter whether a computer is dead or not, as long as you enjoy using it and talking about it (and I assume we all do)nothing else should matter.

This is an Amiga, and one hasn't been made in more than a full decade (for new Amigas go here):

If running outdated Mac emulators like Basilisk is a must, PC's are pretty cheap to come by

My point here was... with nearly 6000 downloads of the MorphOS version, there must be a good few B-PPC/CS-PPC cards around. I'm pretty sure they sold more than 6000 cards. Unless Morph forks on other PPC platforms?

As a commercial platform, I agree, it's about as dead as it can become. However, looking at AmiNet, the spirit lives on, and is pretty darn alive still

How come? It runs on PPC equipped Amigas, works with most software, feels and looks like AmigaOS. The same goes for OS4.
I mean it won't run things like WHDLoad and a vast majority of pre 2.x software but still...

Ah but JST absorbed some of WHDLoad's powers long ago. Notice how it can also run slaves!
