A4000 keyboard membrane

My A4000 keyboard started having problems a long time ago so I got myself a brand new A2000 keyboard instead.

Now I started to see if I can get it back in order again. Took it apart and cleaned it up as well as I could, not being to rough on the membrane. Everything looks ok, no visible damage or corrosion, but if it still doesn't work right I wonder what kind of membrane I can use as a replacement.

It looks pretty much identical to the one in my A500 keyboard, the same type of connector to the circuitboard in the top right corner and the size is exactly the same, so I should be able to get an A500 membrane of the same type?

The text on the 4000 membrane is A-500(E)56 A619B, I haven't opened up the 500 keyboard to check more closely since it works just fine after 36 years.

Amiga store . eu lists the A500 & A4000 membrane as the same you can also get the slim PCB type as a replacement from Sordan. Early A4000's had a hard PCB like A3000 and late ones with Amiga Technologies no C= logo had the soft membrane as far as i know.

Early A4000s, you mean before what date?
A4000 keyboards all bear the month and year they ware made on the bottom sticker so it is easy to check.

I guess I need a new membrane. After a lot of cleaning with isopropanol there's still some keys that doesn't work. The membrane looked fine, I couldn't see any dirt or oxidation so not sure. Though, I doubt it's the conductive ends of the keys that's the issue since it's the same keys as before that doesn't work. I didn't put the exact same ones in the old positions. So a new membrane it is.

I have an A2000 keyboard as well that works. I think the 4000 keyboard looks nicer though so I wonder if the cases are swappable on those two?

I don’t think cleaning with isopropanol is a good idea; you may be washing away the conductive paint along with the dirt. Just wipe it with clean printer paper instead.

Well, there was really not much dirt and some keys weren't working before. No difference now so who knows. I've ordered a new membrane so hopefully I'll get it working properly.
