New Denise Chip... Codename "Faith"
Hi all,
Introducing New family member.... Faith... https://github.com/nonarkitten/amiga...cement_project Its added to the list, Forgot to mention, the top of the chip does not allow a RGB2HDMI board to sit on top as my low profile version actually sits underneath Faith so it is not needed. you can use different headers that would allow different types Paula is 10 days away We are pretty swamped lol, but it is fun!! dont forget to check out Willoe... http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=111805 Last edited by kipper2k; 20 September 2022 at 18:59. |

Nice. Is the code for a SuperDense with ECS features? Was it not practical to implement a scandoubler and DVI output in the FPGA? Similar to indivision ECS?

Wow, you are really on a roll! Impressive stuff.
If you have some blockram left adding a scandoubler should be trivial right? |

Just checked github, I like the idea of AGA-on-ECS although in the description it states OCS or ECS based systems.
Keep up the good work! |

didnt someone make a replacement motherboard for a500s? that plus these chips? just need that new motherboard to have modern stuff like hdmi instead of the old stuff and we have an actual buildable "new, classic amiga".

A lo of people have different thoughts as when an Amiga actually stops being an Amiga. Lets not go down that path in this thread. Most of the custom chips have the code done for them already by different members of the community so we have the chance to keep the Amiga alive in its original form |

Excellent.
There already is a Denise replacement, but it’s OCS only, not ECS… |

I repeat my probably dumb question, but: is there any chance for AGA to work on OCS systems, especially the A600.
Would love to be able to test my games on a real Amiga with such a small form factor on my table.. |

But neither are 5V tolerant and both use level shifters. It makes PLCC problematic and increases costs a lot when you're considering making these in any sort of volume. I mean, here's Deniser: (not shown: a dozen-ish caps and the serial flash on the underside). And here's Faith: (not shown, nothing because this is it -- yeah its a flip chip to make Faith look a little more like a chip when socketed). And if I'm really honest, I could probably omit half those caps. I mean, this is a world of difference. Those level shifters use a lot of space. We want to squeeze a pSRAM chip on there now -- that would be really hard with an FPGA, three CBTD's, LDO, caps, SPI flash and caps already using both sides of the board. Same thing with Agnus. ReAgnus is double sided. This makes PLCC problematic as the board ends up sitting a little high and doesn't make as good socket-contact. This led to his ... interesting choice for using pin headers and bending them around. All our PLCC and DIP boards are all single sided. WYSIWYG. That and the iCE 1K and 4K are more than enough for Denise/Paula and Agnus respectively. Somethings may be tight so we're starting with 8K just for giggles (and it was what we could get), but there's no way we're going to need it all. The iCE can also be programmed via open source tools and iCEcube2 is fuh-ree. Sweet, sweet freeness. When making boards for fun for people to try and make themselves you can make very different design decisions than when you're trying to make 100's of them. We think our designs are better. |

Oh don't omit those caps. Kipper told me one time that he likes to make a mound of 0805 size caps like a huge pile of sand. And placing them and soldering them down makes him feel very proud.
