I think you misunderstood. There is no firebird drive yet. The library I posted is a rewrite so it can be easily added.
It also fixed some stuff hopefully. |

Oh, I was thinking that is new driver for Firebird only. I done few tests, on Ragnarok with Mediator, Voodoo, SoundBlaster and FastEthernet card: 1. Driver works fine- seems to be more stability (PayBack don't freeze just like on sonnet.library). 2. Every software which worked with Sonnet.library, works with new driver too. 3. Speed is little lower than on sonnet.library (but very little) 4. I had problem with only one software/commodity: CycleToMenu (I use OxyPather, not MMUlibs). |

Thanks for testing. You can put bug reports on git. Also there is the stuff I still like to add.
Concerning Payback: If I run the debug library it is very clear that the game is writing to Paula directly (using the PPC). And uses CHIP RAM. Shame it never got AHI. Or used a 68k process to write the sound data. And indeed it is a bit slower. I know I think where the slow down is located (in the 68K code) but any optimizations will be done at the very end (so after FireBird). |

Hopefully this question doesn’t raise the ire of anyone here but this thread has over 4K comments and I’ve seen some YouTube videos to suggest some of this may be possible...
What’s the current state of the world with using a PPC PCI card on an A1200? I know it isn’t officially supported but is there a write up of what works and what doesn’t? I have a new A1200 tower case and mediator on the way. I also have a Ragnarok and PMC card coming, and a voodoo 3. It would be great to at a minimum help beta test here Also, I have a vampire V1200. This has no MMU. Does that mean it’s impossible to couple with one of the ppc pci configurations? Thanks! |

The PPC memory needs to be cache inhibited for the 68K which means you need an MMU.
Also, the 1200 is really really not supported. And what works will probably be only the stuff that is 68K calling PPC functions (so the most basic stuff like voxelspace, cyberpi, cybermand). But real PPC stuff calling 68K functions does not work. It is mostly 68k interrupts being the problem (input, audio) in which the Z2 window of the mediator cannot be programmed correctly (it seems) and sometimes points to wrong memory. I removed it completely from the beta library. A1200 with G-Rex could maybe work. But then I would need a development system. |

Ah, gotcha. Bummer for me but understood, it seems to be a hard limitation that can’t really be solved by software as far as I can tell.
I guess I could sell the Ragnarok and PMC...or get a different Amiga one day. *shrug* Thanks for the reply. |

Holy mackerel has this scene improved! Last year I bought one of these cards and an adapter to use with my Mediator but no matter what I do I see the cards but when I try to init the driver locks up. Is there any experts out there that would be willing to help me get bootstrapped on using this card? I am dying to get it working!!!
Specifically I have the PRPMC8150-1371 card with a Ramix PMC239/F. Like I said, it IS seen when querying PCI. I tried different card combinations and I even tried using a KillerNIC instead. Just like the PMC card, the KillerNIC shows up in the PCI info but during initialization it locks up (usually) or sometimes just fails. Note that my normal 68K only setup does include the Mediator with several cards working. Note I did have to add 3.3v to my Mediator to get the KillerNIC powered. The PMC card + Ramix derives its own 3.3v from the 5v rail. I am desperate for help. I'd even be willing to pay someone for a working HDD image (with the tools loaded, of course) as a baseline/reference point for me. Greg Last edited by gsoravil; 29 July 2020 at 18:43. |

Have you followed the installation guide and mmu-configuration guide on the wiki?
