Disk is not validated

Hello, I am trying to format a CF card. The tool I am using is the default one which comes with BetterWB which name seems to be "NewFormat V1.00".

The CF card is 4GB large and has a single partition. I am formatting with FFS filesystem. When I do a Quick Format I always get an error message that the disk is not validated and cannot do anything with it. However if I do not do a Quick Format, i.e. - I get the cylinder by cylinder window - then everything is ok and I can copy files to the partition no problem.

Anyone knows if this is normal?

Are you sure the only difference is quick format vs. full format? At the end of a full format it does a quick format, too, so the situation should be the same.

The only reason I know that the disk-validator fails after quick format is lack of memory. It needs ca. 1 MB RAM per GB disk space.

So if in case of the quick format you had less RAM free than when you did the full format this would explain it.

Another explanation could be the state of the partition when you did quick format. If it was still validating it could be that the disk-validator was running twice and thus needed twice as much memory, too.

This was in WinUAE and I only had 2MB ChipRAM configured when doing the QuickFormat, but might have increased the FastRAM when doing the FullFormat (because when I tried to solve the problem I opened DiskSalve and this complained that there was not enough RAM).

I think that would explain it. I will try another QuickFormat with more ram and see if that works.
