That's the best you could do guys. If it was another circus color update then I would be not interested at all and I bet many others either. Functionality of the Amiga OS was the best thing we had. I'll be very happy if I can use it again but this time with desired under the hood changes

Good old 3.1 users like me and others appreciate VERY much an update to that! I would never use 3.5 or 3.9, ever.
I do not agree, I am an old Amiga user probably older than you even for years, and like me many other old Amiga users are proud to use OS 3.9 and i do not understand this diffidence of views on the two OSs

Everyone has his choices and must be respected, but a passionate Amiga always wants the best for his OS and OS3.9 BB1/2/3/4 at the moment are the best for Amiga, so be it OS 3.1.4 and I hope even better something compared to OS3.9.

The biggest problem with 3.9 is the fact you can't legally get hold of it anymore.

I am personally really looking forward to getting 3.1.4 once it's available, will be nice to get an actual update to the OS and not just a copyright name change...

Is there a roadmap available for post 3.1.4?

No, there is no strict roadmap, but there are plenty of very good and doable ideas, and it seems there is good will on all parties involved.

It also largely depends on the success of AmigaOS 3.1.4 for the general Amiga user.

You need to understand that we are doing this as a labour of love for the Amiga, and if there is love back, things can only get better.

One of the things to think about (as I am sure you do) is getting the word out.
I know I love my Amigas, but when life gets busy, I can go for a few months without checking websites/forums. Then I get back into it, and sometimes I miss things.
Hardware releases/software releases, etc...

If this were released say 3 months ago, I might not have seen it, and if there isn't an active thread on it when I get back into it, I might not realize there was something I should be buying. ;-)

How does the casual Amiga user keep up on these things? ;-)

I'm the same, I have commitments and other hobbies, I disappear for a bit (weeks, months years sometimes) then come back and try and catch up on things.

Just got my fingers crossed that whenever this is ready I'll be able to buy a bundle of install floppies and Kickstart chip(s). Would be just wonderful.

Hi:

Just a question about this nice&new OS 3.1 (...):

Will it include the Workbench.library?

Yes, a workbench.library that is similar in look to what 3.9 had, but in a much better shape, and hopefully with all bugs fixed.

I'm getting more and more excited about this. Looking forward to ditching 3.9.

I am a ToolsDaemon user. Can you give a hint as to how the 3.1.4 workbench handles this stuff? Is it similar to the 3.9 WB that exposes an interface and ToolsDaemon 2.2 is needed?

@Jope:

I don't believe it is intended to be a replacement for OS3.9. AFAICT it is intended for users of systems stuck on OS3.1 due to lack of a 68020 etc. Hence the low version number.

As far as I know it is or will be something between 3.1, 3.9 and 4.x.

Will this update be released with source code for the changes made or do we just reverse the interesting bits as usual?

I believe the low number is coz it is based on OS 3.1 sources, not OS3.5/3.9 (these are not available...)

3.1.4 is not OS3.9 replacement for sure, and there is no need to ditch OS3.9 completely due that. You should be able to combine both versions together. There are components in 3.1.4 that have same or even more features than 3.9 and without longstanding bugs. So why not to use them...
