I'm not sure I understand what this is about entirely
I'm on 0.9.8.a and have 8x16 selected in the cfg. My display looks fine. (see attached) And now that I did a very closeup pic, I see I should probably clean it next time before posting. Sorry. But anyway, am I missing a specific point here? Perhaps this is about the next version of the FW? |

OK, managed to loosely Heath Robinson my Gotek into my +3 (Thanks Akira) and Flashed latest FF 0.9.9a (Thanks Keir) used configless mode and while it powers up and seems to run OK, having mixed results with certain DSK images although disk swaps worked flawlessly! All DSK images I tried also load and play fine in Spectaculator!
Copy protections identified using Disk Image Manager v0.5 and v2.0 from DamienG on github Images tried that work: Arcade Muscle - Both Side A/B images load and run all games, Alkatraz +3 protection! APB - Loads and runs, Players protection! Arkanoid - The Revenge Of DOH - Loads and runs, Speedlock +3 1988 protection! Best Of Elite Vol 2 - Both Side A/B images load and run all games, Speedlock +3 1988 protection! Beverly Hills Cop - Loads and runs, no protection! Chart Busters - Both Side A/B images load and run all games, unknown protection! Chase H.Q. - Loads and runs, Paul Owens protection! Live Ammo - Both Side A/B images load and run all games, unknown protection! Microprose Soccer - loads and runs, unknown protection! The Fury - Loads and runs, Speedlock +3 1988 protection! The Magnificent Seven - Both Side A/B images load and run all games, Speedlock +3 1988 protection! The Sentinel - loads and runs, unknown protection! The Untochables - Loads and runs, Paul Owens protection! Thundercats - Loads and runs, no protection! We Are The Champions - Both Side A/B images load and run all games, Speedlock +3 1988 protection! Images tried that don't work: Chart Attack - Games load off menu on Disk 1 Side A but nothing loads, Gotek mostly sticks on Track 99, Hexagon protection! Coin-Op Hits - No games load, Hexagon protection! Dan Dare III - Sticks on Track 2, Speedlock 1989 protection! Silkworm - Sticks on Track 3, Speedlock 1989 protection! The New Zealand Story - Sticks on Track 2, Speedlock 1989 protection! Turrican - Garbage on bottom third of screen, Gotek shows Track 99 and +3 resets, Hexagon protection! X-Out - Resets +3 after a few Tracks loaded, Hexagon protection! So only the newer Speedlock 1989 and Hexagon protections have issues! One other issue, the images seem to display in the order they were added to the USB, not alphabetical, have I missed something? I made my own floppy cable adpater (a bit long but just to see if it worked), also unpinned the +5v and +12v power from the +3 floppy connector and only connected the +5v to where the +12v was, taped up the +12v for safety! Gotek in and working: Next is to actually fit the Gotek in semi-permanently and be able to close the case, looks a bit more challenging that |

By the way, I also recommend getting an I2C/IIC 128x32 OLED screen. They are much nicer and also much smaller than the old 16x2 LCDs. |

Would the good old Topaz font (old or new) fit on the OLED screen?

of course it is somehow readable.. but i'm not the youngest anymore and i like the fonts a bit thicker.. i dont want to revert your development, but i'd just like to have the chance to pick the bigger font if possible - dont care about 21cps or 16 ... once flashed the font-type can be fixed - not to waste space for unused font-bitmap, so i just need a compiler-switch to select the right font... and thats it please please... the picture sinphaltimus from 0.9.8a shows the way i like it (dunno if this is the 8x16 or 7x16 font) |

Ziriax and flashfloppy - I'm not going to pretend I know how these thigns work, I don't. However, just a quick check and Ziria (the adf in questions) - boots to WinUAE fine, when I'm in workbench and insert the floppy it comes up as NDOS but when I boot with it it works (WinUAE).
With flashfloppy GoTek, on boot up - the music starts then Amiga crashes. If I boot to Workbench and insert the ADF, workbench reports it as DF0:Uninitialized as opposed to DF0:NDOS like in WinUAE. EDIT: I originally wanted to see if it booted on a real Amiga by copying Ziriax (duplicate adf) to a real floppy. But I can't when it's uninitialized. |

the possibility of hacked floppies for long track writing or "naturally" very slow. So yes, is really plenty of time and if a device (drive or floppy) do not sync-respond after this time is sure bad. Anyway I was really generous in terms of the number of retry attempts (see my code) For all timing in loader you can check: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=1183710 Ziriax loader is a modified and adapted version, but technically it's the same.
