Installing PFS III on Amiga with a Vampire V2 +

Hello all, I don't know if anyone else has had this issue but its got to be something I am doing wrong and I don't really understand how to set it right. I wanted to use a 80GB IDE 2.5" HDD in my A500, for easiness sake I used the folowing steps

1) WinUAE set up with 3.1 ROM 040 CPU (Same as my A500)
2) Using WB 3.9 and PSF III
3) I use 3.9 HDToolBox, add the file system pfs3_aio-handler and I use the identifier 0X50465303
4) I partition the drive with DH0 being the first and being under 4GB ( not sure if I can bake just 1 partition or not)
5) save settings and reset the machine
6) format the drives and start installing 3.9
Then the errors start, for example

The file "MULTIVIEW" is protected from deletion can the file be deleted and/or overwritten?

Options are delete or skip file

This happens a few times even on a blank HDD then things get worse like

file or folder cannot be deleted because its in use - even on new folders

Running out of ideas, this happens before I even get the HDD back into the A500 ( which id does exactly the same and have even tried installing 3.9 whilst being on the A500)

Any ideas?

Are you installing 3.9 from a CD/ISO image or is it unpacked to your HD somewhere, or what?

Did you use A600/A1200 IDE settings on WinUAE and real scsi.device instead of uaehf.device? Note OS3.9 BB2 scsi.device is buggy with the large drives.

I tried running it as an ISO in in 10 Virtual drive which seems to work fine on 4GB and I also stuck the contents of the CD onto one of the HDD partitions inside the A500 but both had the same result

You ought to set the virtual CD drive in WinUAE instead of Windows. Then do the installation from there using the 3.9 emergency boot disk.

Alternatively, if you copy the files over to a directory in the HD, you must use the protect command to add +rwed bits to every file.

I just checked, its set to A600/A1200/A4000 IDE but the SCSI I am using the one off the disc.

On the SCSI.device it comes up as version 43.34

You should be safe with your 80GB IDE and V600/1200IDE + scsi.device 43.24.

The version I am using is 43.34 do I need to downgrade it and if so how?

I also just tried creating an emergency boot disk, booting with that running a hard copy of the CD and it boots up all nice and well but when I go to install the drive it only recognizes it as 25GB,

Hello, yes 43.35 is with the emergency disk, the vampire is still running core 2 ( will upgrade when the next big one comes out ) but oddly I managed to get it working, I have several copies of WB from different Amigas on my computer, the backup of the PPC A1200 recognized it as 80GB but I had all thoes issues, the clean CD and FD 3.9OS recognized it as 25GB but when I did the install it all worked perfectly, both using the same IDE drivers, same RAM, ROM, chip set and 43.35 but both had different faults. Well I managed to get around it, I installed the drive with my PPC A1200 and then partitioned it with the recovery setup, it now works flawlessly but I have absolutely no idea why they are acting so differently.

Thanks for the help, for some reason when I try to do something on an Amiga it never works first time LOL

Why are you postponing the core update? It takes a minute to do it and there are usually quite a few bugfixes and new features in each new core.
