the following boot took several MINUTES! first i thought, hdf was killed.
left my pc, doing something else and after return workbench was back.
another reboot done by myself was quick again...

It sounds like the system crashed shortly after (or during) a write to disk. On reboot the validator scanned the disk which can take a while for large partitions.

thanks. is there a way to make such scan actions visible somehow? so that i can see, that the system is doing something?
because if i didn't leave my pc for other more important things, i would have wiped that .hdf and restored a backup of it...

There are various programs which wait until validation is complete, try searching Aminet. One which can show a picture and play music while you wait is ValWait (I haven't used it).

If you want to know whether a validation is taking place, just watch the disk activity indicator (you may have to setup your emulation to windowed mode).

You might as well try 'set interactive on' at the beginning of the S-S.

had turned it on and while this validation (?) took place the blue hd indicator showed always on.
there was no real sign of activity like blinking or flashing as a hd led would do during disk access.

i'm using standard amiga fast file system, no third party product. i read that pfs may be not stable.
and also it may be more difficult to recover data if anything happens. don't want to risk anything.

I think it is used a I described it.
You may try it first in a shell on WB.
After setting this variable any command needs be confirmed.

PFS offers some tools and can also be used for Floppies

- DiskValid (automatically corrects invalid disks)
- PFSDoctor (repairs the Disks also NoDOS)
- .DelDir (with this command you can resume all accidentally deleted files, you can set it to Dopu4 and copy deleted files)
- PSFormat (tool for formatting in PFS)

The only disadvantage is that you have to wait a few moments after copying,
otherwise you will get incomplete and corrupt files.
