I know the thread started sadly with gimbal's heartfelt story of kitty but... I'm really surprised this thread isn't filled with more stories / photos of your beloved pets

...it's not all about cats; if the truth be told I'm more of a dog person but love all animals really; they give so much love and are good for the soul

Here's what I had when growing up in Australia:

... Dogs
... Cats
... Birds
... Rabbits
... Guinea pigs
... Hamsters
... Mice
... Fish

Come guys, share your stories / photos of your beloved pets

My pooch Ollie, a wonder to be with and a destructive little bugger, but I wouldn't change anything, he's by my side almost 24/7 when time permits and he's simply my best friend.

My old bitch Sable, lost her back in 2013. She was a great mustering dog in her younger days and got to live out her later years by the sea, swimming and fishing every day, she loved eating live herring. Her sire was a bully/staffy and her dame was a blue healer/dingo. She had a good run, she made it to 17 before a couple of strokes forced me to give her a bullet.

My little mate Jack (old pic when he was 5 or 6 months). I got him when Sable was getting old so she could have some company and they had 2 years together. He is a red healer/dingo and is a clever little bastard. I have never had to teach him anything, he pretty much learned from Sable and I honestly can't remember when I have ever had to admonish him. All the people in my area love him, some people are amazed at how he ignores all distractions and will walk beside me without a lead. He has never seen a lead or been tied up, Sable was the same, although she did have a runner because she liked to jump the fence and sneak off on adventures at night.

Is he a Jack Russell DH?

I had one for many years but he passed away in 2005 at the age of 15, his name was Shorty:

...and here he is in 1999 when I was packing my bags for London:

Best dog ever!!! I miss him

@DamienD

Yes, he is a Jack Russel and boy do we know it. He was the strongest out of the litter and he still shows his strength now, although most time he responds to our commands, if his concentration is on something else, he is oblivious to anything else going on around him.

He loves to meet people, chases buses, wagons and transit vans, with me still attached, and when people see him they always say he's gorgeous, but there's a reason for that, his mask on his face is heart shaped and that's what everyone notices. It's a pain tbh, especially when I'm trying to get from A to B quickly.

He's my buddy and we share almost everything together, when he's under the weather, I look after him, when I'm under the weather, he does the same for me.

Anyway, here's another pick of him that shows off that heart shape mask

And here's one when he was a pup

If some of my pets die all photos are destroyed or deleted. 3 dogs, 5 cats.

Lassie, our first pooch when I was a kid, she was obviously a pup here, 1970, so I was only three years old. She was put down in the summer of 1982 due to liver or kidney disease Broke my heart having to say goodbye

She was knocked down when she was about 6 or 7, we were down London on the London to Brighton road (60mph), near Redhill, luckily the car that hit her had only just turned onto the road, so they weren't going very fast, but it was enough to traumatise her for the rest of her life. She suffered a torn ligament a minor fracture and slight internal bleeding iirc. Where they operated, on her right side, the fur never grew back, so she had a bald patch about the size of a 3.5" floppy disk. From that day forth she would shake at the sound of thunder and would come running to one of us for safety, she would even run upstairs, despite knowing she wasn't allowed up, but her fear was simply too much, so she never got wrong for that, we just comforted her in her hour of need.

She was simply the best well behaved dog I knew, and she has been missed ever since. My dad still has her collar & tag + her favourite toy, a blue ring that she played tug of war with.

Ah! the memories, brings a lump in my throat

Now I have my own dog, Ollie above (posts #22 & #25), and he's simply a rascal through and through, but they all have their own personalities, so I can't persecute him for being a devil

My beutiful grumpy bear who I had to say good by to in September woke up with her one day in a coma , vet reckoned she had some sort of seizure and she would have suffered extensive brain damage from the lack of oxygen, she was a good old 15 years of age and had battle through to lots surgery to remove tumours and bounced back like they where nothing. Anyway enough of the depressing part here are some pics of her in her favourite place the pub, helping with some laundry and helping me with a Rapberry pi project i had going on.

Damn, that's a bear alright! The favorite pass time was clearly to pretend to be a rug

I couldn't do that. I wish I had more pictures of my pets that have died. I'm pretty much a hermit and have as little to do with people as possible (I could count the number of humans I consider friends on one hand), I much prefer the company of my dogs.

My current dog and the old bitch I had before him even have their own websites. :P

Try Instagram. My parents put their dog on there; it has followers from all over the world and gets mail from New Zealand, Australia, the states, etc. :/

Crazy world we live in where pets have a bigger network than you.

Well she was 15 in the pics and taking it easy in her old age, so here is some pics of her a bit younger, and demonstrating that Akitas where original used to hunt bears (and ducks apparantly)

Ok, since you put it like that...

Here's some photos of Barney, our beloved chocolate Lab, who we sadly lost to cancer at the age of 13 in April this year. He came to us at 7 years old and it took a long while to fully gain his trust, but eventually we won him round...

And then, after 4 months of coming home to an 'empty house', we found Molly, who needed a new home... Love (again!) at first sight and my new baby who has me twisted around her paw...

Thanks for sharing your story Gimbal. I'm sure you'll always remember Kitty fondly and over time the pain of losing her will diminish. Maybe one day you'll have another cat?
I still miss (and talk to ) Barney every day, but love Molly as much as it's possible for a man to love his pet...

Heck yes as the house is now way, waaaaaaaaay too quiet (but also quite spacious and clean now that it isn't loaded with cat furniture and hairs...).

Just not now, but I'm sure sooner rather than later there will be a cat or two in the local rescue that belong in our home. The only thing that I ask is that they're socialised so they can go to my family when we want to take a trip and we can actually take them to the vet for regular checkups Re-socialising cats I from now on leave up to people who specialise in it.
