And above all, a modern GUI worthy of its value

Hope not - The whole point of Hippoplayer is the minimalist need for resources IMHO, and so the existing minimal GUI is very fine - for anyone looking for a more beefed up player I would recommend Eagleplayer.

Well, now that the source is out, if anyone even wants to make a HippoplayerNG, it's just at matter of starting to code... and code.

could it be possible to remove the MUI part so that it could run on any workbench without this add-on ?

Hippoplayer has never used MUI. It even runs under Workbench 1.2.

IMHO a module player like HippoPlayer doesn`t need to have a good looking GUI, but it should play good. More important would be bugfixing and maybe adding some missing features. For me it is the limit of entries in modlists that needs to expanded and some seldom exceptions when load/switch to med module that happen on my system.

There's an arbitrary limit of 0x3fff entries for the modlist that could just be changed to a bigger one. The check is in a few places, search for "cmp #$3fff,modamount(a5)" in the source. 0x3fff is 16383 :-) A safe new larger value would probably be 0x7ffe, which is 32766. To make it larger would require some further checks and modifications.

To also make the randomizer work properly, see this: https://github.com/koobo/HippoPlayer/issues/1

At least $FFFF (65535) is need IMO but if it is just a number that must be changed and there aren`t any conflicts then go for a higher value. It would be nice to have a working random. So we can bin the workaround ARexx scripts for it.

A small GUI issue here is the HippoPrefs "Play-2" window. The "MPEGA quality" line is overwritten by some special character (B€N®ýlCúÿB QB€N®ýLß). Someone else has these?

Thanks K-P Koljonen for releasing the source code.
It was such a great player ! I used it most of the time except for some specific music-format. With it i succeed in playing S3M, XM, IT... at a quite good quality on my A1200.

Hippo was always my favourite player, I especially like the minimalistic interface and good scroll box. If someone updates it to use mui, I would hope they keep the option to use the standard gui as well.
