Amiga 1200 accelerator cards
Hi guys
The accelerator cards that I've found so far seem to inidicate that they connect through the external PCMCIA slot. Is this true for all accelerators? I.e. do they all stick out the side? I was hoping to find an internal one. |

To my knowledge there are none that connect in the way you describe. They connect to the expansion slot which you can find within the trapdoor under the A1200
The pcmcia is most commonly used for network cards, memory cards (both ram and storage) hard drives and cdrom's. I believe there is also a serial port that connects via the pcmcia slot too. |

Maybe he is referring to the A500 and the external left expansion port the ACAs use.
If you have an A500 there are internal ones: http://kipper2k.com/accel500.html EDIT: Ups... Sorry I see now the title of the thread So yes, all of the A1200 accelerator use the bottom expansion slot: http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...oducts_id=1002 Last edited by Retrofan; 13 May 2015 at 12:29. |

Thanks guys - that clears things up. I kept seeing "Compatible with PCMCIA" so I wa sa little worried that they connected that way (like the ACA500).

There's a good thread over on Amibay which gives a good breakdown on A1200 accelerators/expansions: http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php...-buyer-s-guide
re: PCMCIA cards, there was also the Squirrel SCSI adaptor which was kinda handy. |

Yep, some accelerator cards aren't fully compatible with the PCMCIA slot because they map their memory to the same address space. Others (generally any that can accept more than 8MB of RAM) map their memory to a totally different area so you can use PCMCIA cards at the same time as the accelerator.
