Software Error FFF0? / Green Screen
Hi All,
After getting my old A2000 back up and running i have noticed twice now that it has Guru'd after being on for a while siting idle with just the Clock running nearly full screen. I used Guru 3.0 from aminet to look up the error and it said that it was an unknown dead end error? I have also tried all the online refs but found nothing. Software Failure Error: FFF0 0003 Task: 0000CEFC Specs: Amiga 2000 R6.2 1MB RAM (chip) 2.04 ROM No Cards installed Booted from Original Workbench 2.1 disk. The only thing opened was the clock program and possibly a Shell. It was running for about 30 minutes the first time it did it. The next time I believe it was on for 1 hour+ I wasn't paying too much attention as I wasn't using it. Anyone have a clue what could be causing this or what that error points to? Thanks! The first thing I'd do is a RAM test.

The plot thickens. RAM test passed multiple passes for several minutes 10+ passes. When exiting the memtest It froze with grey screen. Now it won't boot, back to black screen. Arrrg. I guess I have more work to do on my 2000.
Also checked the voltage on PSU. 5.16v and 11.94v which seems fine... |

Sounds like there's a dodgy connection somewhere. Inspect all sockets for corrosion or damage and check IC's for corroded pins.

Yeah that is what I am thinking, too. I pushed down on the RAM chips and agnus and tried booting. I got a green screen for a few seconds then the normal sequence and finally booted and worked fine. I inspected the agnus socket and it seems fine, no corrosion or bent pins. The chip itself is NOS. Time to look underneath and see if any chips need to be reflowed. Ugh.

I am terrible at updating my threads but I had a chance to tinker with the 2000 again. It is now consistently booting to Green Screen. I know the agnus is good as I have 3 that are all new and have tested them in a working Amiga. This leads me to think that one or more of the ram chips or traces are bad.
I have only basic meter and tools no scope or anything like that. Is there a trick or plan to test to find which chip or trace is bad? Do you replace one at a time and hope you find the right one? I can check for continuity, thats no problem. Feel free to tell me if I am wasting my time too. Thanks! |

If you have the patience, you should bring up the schematics and start testing continuity for the chip ram address and data buses.
