Need To Find An Old Magazine

Need Help Identifying An Old Amiga Magazine

Im hoping someone on this forum can help me. Sometime around 1990 ish (not too certain of the year but it is around this time) my brother had some of his deluxe paint 4 art printed in the readers gallery section of a magazine. His 40th birthday is coming up and I would love to track the mag down to give it to him for his birthday.*

I was almost certain that the magazine was Amiga Action, so I bought one from around this time off ebay just to see if it was the right mag, but there was no readers gallery to be seen. So now I'm stuck and hope someone can help.

Can anyone remember an amiga mag from this time that had a section that printed readers pictures? The mags I used to buy at this time were Amiga Action, Zero, One Magazine and maybe a few others.*

If anyone here still has old amiga mags and finds one with a readers gallery then the pictures that were printed were of Sylvester Stallone with a USA flag draped over him and one of Arnold Swarzenegger. Naff I know but we were young.

I remember him drawing these pictures on deluxe paint, pixel by pixel and it was the first time we realised that my little bro had some talent. He now runs his own design company.

Sorry for the long post but it would mean so much to me, and him if I could locate this mag, and of course I would pay if anyone had the mag and would be willing to part with it.

Any information would help.
Thanks
Pete.

Hi Pete and welcome to EAB!

Unfortunately, I foolishly got rid of all my Amiga magazines years ago, so wouldn't be able to help you with a real, physical copy of whichever mag it might turn out to be... However, have you tried 'Amiga Magazine Rack' at:
amr.abime.net
They have many, many scanned Amiga magazines and you might be able to find the right one before going hunting on eBay or AmiBay.
Good luck!

Edit: Thinking on it, I remember Amiga Format used to have a 'Pic of the Month' or something like that and the best ones used to get put on their coverdisks - does this help?

I remember an Amiga magazine having a page of reader submitted art, but I can't remember if it was a regular feature.

We used to get Amiga Format (ne ST/Amiga Format), Amiga Computing and CU Amiga regularly.

CU Amiga seems more likely because it wasn't so games oriented as the others and had a lot of articles and tutorials about how to use your Amiga creatively.

Edit: Ah, Amiga Computing had a reader's gallery, after looking at some of the contents pages. Sadly the gallery pages themselves don't seem to be online (although I only checked a couple of issues)

I was a action and format man, I think if we can find the mag with the gallery we're half way there.

I used to have Zero, The One and Amiga Power.
My brother used to have Amiga Action and my Dad had Amiga Format, Amiga Shopper and occasionally CU Amiga.
Like I said, I can only remember the Amiga Format 'pic of the month' thing, but as I've proved in other threads, my memory's not always that great...
Also, my memory's not always that great...!

Computer and Video Games also had a section called Frame Up which was reader art. Most issues have full thumbnails so you should be able to track it down quite easily if it is that mag.

C+VG were a bunch of amateur muppets however as witnessed with the Outrun screenshot cockup

@perersavo

Are you sure your brother doesn't have that magazine already ? I mean, if i would have had a picture of me printed in a magazine like that, i would make sure i buy it and keep it, like if it was a Picasso

If it was Amiga Action, you're rather out of luck for AMR I'm afraid. I have almost no issues, Galaxy uploaded most of the scans on AMR from Amiga Action. Have you actually asked your brother if he has it OR if he remembers exactly which magazine it was (or what was on the cover etc).

Hi guys. First I want to say thankyou for everyone that's trying to help me. I'm astonished by how many replies I've had already. I miss the amiga days. What a great community you've got here.

I'll try and answer as many questions as I can.

I spent most of last night reading every magazine scan on amr and bombjack etc and I couldn't find what I was looking for. Although just seeing some of the magazine covers gave me a great nostalgic feeling. I actually remembered some of the articles. From 25 years ago!

I'm kicking myself for not keeping the magazine at the time but I was young etc etc.

I know for a fact that my brother doesn't have the mag because we've talked about it over the years. His first printed pictures etc.

I can't ask him what mag he thinks it was because I want to give it to him for his birthday in june. I was hoping to get the pages framed.

I'm beginning to doubt my own memory but I'm sure it was amiga action. I even read all the atari st mags I could find online but I had no joy (we used to own an st before we saw the light!)

I've been on ebay and ordered different mags from different months just to see if anything rings a bell (and I could only find 1 amiga action). I actually payed £7 for one magazine!
So thanks everyone for your help. I will keep you posted

My memory is shot but I seem to remember CU Amiga had an arty section.

I have a double CU Amiga dvd here full of scans that I obtained from Mort, overt at Lemon64.

I can crack that open and have a root around

Ok I found one picture of Arnie from the first Terminator movie. If this is rings any bells:

Drawn by somebody called Chris Lumb of Leeds.

C U Amiga, February 1993, Page 125.

'Your Amiga' magazine definitely had a regular Reader Gallery feature, because I had some of my nature pictures printed:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a81...April_1991.jpg

This was in the April 1991 edition, so it's sort of around the correct time you're looking for too. I've had a look in the archive here...

http://amr.abime.net/issues_12

...but it looks like most of the Reader Gallery pages haven't been scanned.

Good luck though and let us know if you find the right mag!

Galaxy scanned those pages, and he's not really active anymore. So unless someone else has those issues and is prepared to upload them, we can't do much sorry (assuming Your Amiga is the correct magazine)
