Floppy drive woes

My A1200 floppy drive will read media with no problems at all.If I copy something to the floppy or rename it and transfer it to my zip drive the zip will save the info and new file name even after rebooting. The floppy however will not.The new filename will appear on the workbench and I think - HAH cracked it.Remove the floppy and reinsert and it reverts back to the original filename and any thing saved on it vanishes.
If I remove my hard drive and boot from the workbench floppy up comes the workbench and I can do everything except SAVE FILES TO FLOPPY!!!
I would have thought if the floppy will read - why cant it write? This is hacking me off now so any help would be appreciated. Thanks for viewing - I have my fingers crossed
Dave

Sounds weird to me Dave... as I've read your other post too I'd try a new drive.

Are A500 floppy drives compatible with A1200s?

A500 drives seemed to be much better quality than the drives used in the 1200s.

hmmm I might concider a new floppy as well, the floppy drive in my A1200 goes haywire if I try to run the machine with the case off, reading is fine but writing causes corruption and checksum errors on the disk. If I then put the case back on it then does the same thing for a couple of days then settles down and works perfectly, very odd. Maybe I should swap it with the drive in my A600, they are both the same make and model (they are both Panasonic JU-253-043P)
