Requesting two games without R/W errors

HI,

a second+third request from me, this time it's a VERY old game first:

1. the submarine game Up-Scope.

I could get a version from the Dream Zone, and from some other obscure place, and they were identical: cracked by THE CHAMPS. For the record, the CRC is 4c20bf3e. Both have the same R/W error, caused by a invalid checksum in Block 5.
I wouldn't dare change the checksum to a valid value, not in this case, because this is likely to break everything.

2. Barbarian (I) by PALACE (not the Psygnosis version, please check first!)

This game is quite common (CRC:ab43455a), however I haven't seen any game that did NOT have the R/W error, preventing the sound from playing.

Update! I just did it myself! I found a non-DEFJAM crack (somewhere ) and I just replaced the non-working files with the ones from the other disk! All files have been copied to a fresh disk again. --> ADF Zone

Thanks in advance.

Who cracked it? DEFJAM too?

OK, if you find it, you may upload it.
However, Up-Scope is HIGH priority, because I didn't see a working version anywhere (yet).

ah. There's no speech in my version either

Everytime that frog dude comes on and takes away the body after getting a head chopped off, you're supposed to hear him laugh....At least that's how it is on the C64

A nice development. Last night, I was playing Palace Barbarian..and no sound. I had the same version as you and Akira had problems with, Andreas.
Then I remembered that there was a game published by Palace(?) as well called Deathsword. I will upload when I get home.
I am not sure if Deathsword had the same problem.
here is a link to The Palace.de....

http://www.thelegacy.de/Museum/game.php3?game_id=1629

The screens are of the C 64 version, tho.
Also, on a side note, if anyone ever has had troubleplaying the Psygnosis version of Barbarian 1 in emulation, just ask for config, I got it working

Cool US Thing

I think it's the American thing again. Marketing people like to be seen to actually do something, instead of lying all the time, so they do studies and conclude that games should have different names in different countries.

So, I think Barbarian is the European name and Death Sword is the US name.

Sometimes I cannot fathom why there was a name change. For example, Mindscape's snappy (but admitedly, unoriginal) name of Legend was changed to The Four Crystals Of Trazere in the US.

Same with Kult, which became Chambers Of The Psi-Mutant Priestess.

I sometimes miss films here in Paris because I don't recognise the film from the French title. Sometimes it's obvious: Edward Scissorhands becomes Edward Aux Mains D'Argent. Jaws is Les Dents.

Worst of all was The Madness Of King George film - the title was altered from the stage play name of something like The Madness Of King George III, because they thought people would question why they hadn't seen the first two films in the trilogy.

Yes this is extremely stupid. Also teh compromises they use to take when converting, liek Brutal Sports Football being converetd onto CRazy Footbal and the blood taken out. Stupid censorship.

Nintendo of America likes to do this kind of shit a lot, that's why Im importing most fo my games from japan :P I want them untouched!

Digging out this ANCIENT topic, in order not to start a new one...
Has anybody got this one archived?

"Barbarian - The Ultimate Warrior (1987)(Palace Software)[cr Defjam][Fix Mitsaras & TITAN][t +2 Defjam].adf"

The fix was done looong ago by me and my french friend TITAN, AFAIR we played with the checksums of some sectors and the error disappeared, the sound was perfectly loading on this version!

I'm looking for this specific version but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere in the web...
I have the same problem as the topic starter, can't find an ADF without the nasty sound-messing r/w error and I'd also like to own again a piece of my old amiga work...

Apparently I have lost the real fixed disk that I owned once...
Anyone, please???

What was the problem with Up-Scope?

I have found 3 copies:

2 uncracked but one of them has [b] (bad dump)?
1 The Champs crack.

All three load, 2 report a disk error but load anyway.

In all 3 the playing screen is backwards, left to right?

EDIT: Both WHDLoad version work O.K

yes, but I always used a 90° inclined mirror to play this game back then because it created a cool illusion of depth which made it a lot more nice to play/watch. (Just as some arcade games do)
I thought it was done on purpose?

After speaking with Cody it appears this game was more than likely an arcade game only http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_de...?game_id=10271
and the fact you view it through a periscope means like dirkies suggested, it was meant to be viewed in a mirror which is why the copies were always backwards.
