Winter Games preserved?
Hi,
I was wondering if Winter Games by Epyx is already preserved? Couldn't find it in the list nor in the most wanted section. My uncle could have a copy, though I'm not sure that it's still unaltered as we liked to play for highscores in those glorious days. My question is if it's use to look for it. If it's already in the works I wouldn't need roam his dusty attic but if not, I'd go for it and there might be some other sports gems... |

codetapper is already working on a whdload install, i guess based on the original game. so he must have a copy of it...regarding CAPS, they need to preserve this mythic game, just send them an email...

We appear to have a few dumps of it, so my guess is (can't check at work) that they are modified or have unrecoverable errors. If you find your copy, it might be worth seeing if it is still unmodified anyway. Maybe you can have a look at the highscores and see, but remember to KEEP THE DISK WRITE-PROTECTED! If you don't recognise the highscores, please contact us at contrib@softpres.org! Thanks!

Ok,
I found a copy of Winter Games from the Mega Sports Collection as well as a copy of Summer Games from the same Compilation. Also I found a german version of Lure of the Temptress and a game called Iron Trackers from some budget collection if I remember correctly. One other thing I noticed is that Pinball Fantasies in the sps-database is listed with 4 disks while both copies I came across have only 3 disks... |

The fourth disk is for Amigas with only 512 kb. It was removed later and a sticker saying "1 mb required" was added to the box.

Indeed, and we did check that the other disks are exactly the same, but well done for checking so thoroughly!
But anyway, those other games look great! Please mail us if you have not already done so, and we will give you all the details. |

Well, I hope that the games still work. Would be a shame if they were lost, but so far I could only get Iron Trackers and Winter Games to work (with unknown, yet very strange highscores). Lure doesn't start up and I fear it's a disk error, same with Summer Games (might also be kickstart issue).
But I know that there are some further games I remember seeing the boxes of. Have to do a bit research the next weeks. I've also got a copy of Ambermoon which I didn't bring with me because I was sure it was already preserved and I completely shocked that it's not... Oh, and thanks for the info on Pinball Fantasies... Edit: No, no, Summer Games is gone. And it was not on 2 disks but it was Summer Games 1 and 2. Both destroyed by Byte Bandit...Curses. Eeek. Shame. Well, we can always put them on the wanted page I suppose.
So what does that leave you with? |

Is this the original Winter Games we're talking about, or is it The Games: Winter Edition?
If it's the first one, I'm surprised it's not even mentioned on HOL. I didn't know it was ever released. Would be fantastic if it was though, 'cause the game is excellent (and one of the main reasons for owning a C64 today). |

I can't understand why you've not found it in the past, the entry is quite old, considerable older than when it was last edited. Oh well least you've found it now
