Question CD Audio Tracks: inside or outside ISO

Why the audio tracks sometimes are inside the ISO image, sometimes are outside of it ?
(I found ISO of the same CD32 game in both formats)

A standard ISO image can't have the CD audio tracks inside, this is only a single data track. So you will find ISO+WAV or ISO+MP3 etc rips.

But you can do raw dao dumps, i.e. in a Bin/Cue or in a Clone CD Image (CCD+IMG). These CD multi-track Images contain the CD audio tracks too.

An .iso file can not have audio tracks inside, only .bin/.cue can. I know people tend to call any CD image "ISO", but an ISO image is always a non-raw dump of a data track and contains only that single data track.

Anyway, I prefer ISO+WAV most of the time, as that format is easiest to work with.

I would suggest that BlindWrite format is best.

See this post for details:

That's my fault
Infact images with audio tracks inside i found are BIN images
Perhaps ISO + WAV is better to manage

Well, proprietary formats suck. Try to open a .nrg file in 10 years when Nero is long forgotten.

It doesn't matter which dumping software you prefer. All CD Images works fine, if you do it properly.

BlindWrite does do it properly - every time! There's been no complaint about the AACD03.7Z CD image file.

Give it a try!

Second that I use CloneCD, but that's mainly because it's my preference and not because it's 'the one and only'

Why? I prefer other dump software. I doesn't matter if you use Alcohol, Clone CD, Isobuster or a Standard ISO+EAC for CD audio tracks. etc.

Some PSX games and newer PC games had some important data in the sub channels. But i assume all Games before 1998 works flawless without them.

Nero can also do CD images with subchannels. Use (Disc-at-once) DAO/96.

I don't think any of us can give you a definite answer. All we can do is suggest methods of imaging CDs so that all data they contain can be replicated exactly, so that the copy will behave in an identical fashion to the original disc.

No-one without inside knowledge has successfully managed to replicate a PlayStation 2 CD. This demonstrates what we are up against.

All that can be done at this stage is to trust the software you have used up to now and stick with it until you discover a format which confounds it. This will happen one day, because subtle changes are being introduced all the time in an effort to frustrate piracy.

Sensible Soccer 98 European Club Edition? When it works without subchannels, then it's ok.

Any PlayStation disc, even for PSOne, is impossible to copy without certain knowledge, closely-guarded by Sony Corporation, of the disc layout. The boot sector is the key to the whole mystery. Some say it contains an encoded PlayStation logo, but who knows for sure?

Rest assured that you would not have been able to generate a faithful copy of the original CD whatever the status of the .sub file.

This is why disc-swapping tricks have been developed to allow copy CDs to run. A boot sector is read from a genuine disc, which can then be substituted for a copy disc without the console knowing that this has been done. All one requires is a single genuine PlayStation CD game, and with it any number of other titles can be made to run from copy discs provided the console is suitably modified.
