A1200 accelerator switch?
Hi all,
I have an ACA500plus with a ACA1221 plugged in, and it's all very nice, but sometimes I'd like to run with the 68000 for compatibility reasons. Unlike the ACA1233n or Blizzard 1230 Mk IV, it can't be switched off through the firmware. I was wondering if such a thing existed as a switch on a small board that went between the ACA500plus and the accelerator connector. Presumably switching off the 5v line would disable it safely? |

I doubt there's a safe way to switch it off while the power is on. Don't have the ACA1221, but ACA630 had a jumper that I connected to a switch, and that worked (but not without restarting the Amiga). The ACA1221 doesn't seem to have that? (Going by the Wiki only.)
I solved things like these by having some Amigas accelerated, some not. (If that's an option.) The configurable button on the ACA500Plus was great, I could bind it to switch to 7MHz at any time and that saved one unaccelerated Amiga setup for me! (I didn't have an accelerator in the ACA500Plus though ofc.) |

Sure, I'd be fine with only switching while the power is off, I just don't want to keep unplugged it. The strength of the connector doesn't fill me with confidence

Good thinking, I think the weak point is the inside of the 'L' shaped ACA500Plus board.
The ACA1221 can't switch itself off, so the U option in the F10 menu is only available as a profile setting for a few accelerators that can. If you don't have space for 2 Amigas then maybe buying an ACA1233n and selling the ACA1221 could be an option that isn't too expensive? ACATune is always there as a way to turn off caches, and HogFast can make sure (non-trackloaded) software doesn't load itself into fastram, if you're willing to do some testing with the programs that don't start or run too fast.
