Received RGB cable with broken prongs

So I got a RGB cable that I am planning to hook up to one of my 1084S monitors. As far as the male end of the cable is concerned, only five silver prongs are attached; the prongs to pins 2, 6, 8, and 9 are missing. My (stupid?) question is if I attach the male part to the rear of a C= 1084S, will the monitor be damaged?

That should still be a properly wired cable:

Yep, that often happens with connectors as a cost-cutting measure - only the required pins are crimped, saving a few minutes and a couple of pence per cable.

I tested the cable out, and it works only if the composite lead is plugged in a well, but if I do this, I get a fuzzy picture. I am getting another cable soon, so hopefully, it will work on the Amiga without the composite lead.

Where did you get the cable from? If purchased from a retailer other people may want to know so they can avoid getting the same cable/problems.

The pins that are missing are not required, so it's not necessarily down to a dealer selling dodgy cables. It could be a one-off fault, or there could be something else going on so let's leave the pitchforks at home until we know more about the problem.

It's so long since I got rid of my 1084 that I can't remember exactly, but it has two separate inputs and it sounds like it's set to use the composite input, not RGB. Try switching the input selector to see if that makes a difference. Composite video will be far blurrier than RGB, but if the input selector's set correctly, attaching a composite cable should make no difference to the display whatsoever.

I didn't say it was down to a dodgy dealer so keep your superiority complex to yourself!
It sounds more like a cheap quality cable that I would rather avoid, and I think others would too.

I didn't say that you did, but by naming dealers you could be taking away some business they probably need in such a small market, without knowing that it's anything to do with them or what they're selling. I'm just saying you should figure out what the problem is first, because to me it sounds like there's nothing wrong with the cable.

Sounds like the monitor is set to use composite if the monitor displays composite. Set it to RGB.
