Optimize the configuration

Hello,

i just completed my installation of WinUAE on a Windoes 2003 Server which is running in a VMware ESX virtual machine.

The reason for using VMware is, i need a permanent running machine for my old BBS system (telnet or http to amiga.raudonis.de). I limit the CPU for this virtual machine to 1000 MHz and on a dual Quadcore host the permanet 1000 MHz CPU load will be no problem.

My question now, which settings will be the best for running a Workbench application with MUI. What emulation is not needed and can be disabled or what setting is the lowest cpu usage?

Currently i tryed this:
- 68040 with default settings
- OCS Chipset - Generic
- Immediate Blitter
- Faster RPG
- Collision Level: None
- Sound Emulation: Disabled
- Display Refresh: Every tenth Frame

I used the 40.70 ROM from my A4000T and the OS3.9 with both updates.

Perhaps someone has a hint for me: I have a problem with the mouse. Within the virtual machine on the UAE screen the mouse walks with jumps of 10 to 20 pixels... In the Amiga config i must use the slowest mouse speed. Is there something i can change? The Problem i have not when i use the same config and disk files on my Vista client. Must be something with the VMware mouse emulation...

Greetings from germany.
Stefan

Hi Raudi,

what resolution do you use within WinUAE? My suggestion would be raise the VMWare limit to 2 Ghz and see if it gets better. It could also be possible that the DirectX emulation of VMWare is not 100%. I use VMWare at work, so I have not much experience with DirectX . Maybe there's something about that here

Btw : Welcome

"Mousehack" mouse mode should fix this.

Interesting i've used m$ vpc for a while now, but not yet with winuae. I have never seen use less cpu mhz, or maybe this i should try on dual coe pc. Or is it vmware has these options evenon single core cpu also. I think i should be using vmware now instead of m$ vpc.

Hmm... But it seems not very stable. I have placed the dump files to this post.

WinUAE ends when accesing ist over the network. Which is the best TCP/IP Stack which runs with the AWS and TelserD? At the moment i use AmiTCP 4.1.

I guess you use uaenet.device? It is broken, should be better in 1.5 betas.

Care to explain why you must use WinUAE inside a virtual machine to run a BBS? can't you just install a terminal emulator for Windows?

Because a BBS is the host and a terminal emulator (like Hyperterminal) is the client...

My mailbox software AmBoS is only running on a Amiga.

No, no, I mean this or a similar app. It can do both host and terminal at the same time.
