Question IDE controller repair

Is it worth to get another A1200 mobo for parts and take off parts to fix not working IDE controller? Also is there any difference for IDE controller from PAL and NTSC machine?

Hi Jack,

If you get another motherboard and that works fine, just swap the old one out altogether!

Sorry, mate. It's Friday night, and I'm a bit boozed up.

What prowler said, then you have some time in which to look at what you need to fix the old one.

If the IDE is gone on the board it wont be long before other area's fail.... to be honest, even in Prowlers Boozed up state, he has hit the nail on the head.,..

Get a new motherboard, and use the one you have now as spares...

Usually the Gayle chip dies rendering the IDE port dead. Common causes are leaking/dried capacitors and loose pins on the IDE connector.

First go for the easy: push gently the pins of the IDE to see if some are loose. Then replace all capacitors on the board (inexpensive). If no go, replace the mobo as wise people said.
