Getting the most from my Apollo 1260/80mhz 64mb

Hey,

So after much penny pinching and cheap pints I saved enough to upgrade my Apollo 1260/50 32mb to the above monster (thank you Stachu!). Trouble is I'm not AmigaOS savy enough to get the most out of it performance wise i.e. running NovaCoders (thanks man) amazing ports! I use ClassicWB OS3.9v27, the only startup-sequence patches I have used are CPU60 B, CopyMem and CMQ060. I'm getting 103MIPS from SysSpeed. However, the likes of Quake and Quake 2 are quite slow compared to the videos posted by Nova, same with some of the heavier ScummVM games. Any advice on how to boost performance would be much appreciated. I've read on these boards about the likes of RemApollo and HseMaths patches, but like I say I'm terrible at anything to do with editing startup etc etc

Yes, RemApollo is a good choice. FBlit is nice too and maybe some other GFX speedup patches. A faster Filesystem like SFS/PFS3 and a faster IDE/SCSI interface can also help.

I'm hoping that a patient person would be able to give me a guide to installing RemApollo, editing the startup-sequence etc because I really don't know where to start with that!

Start with RemApollo if you feel you can do it. It has a readme what explains installation, dependance`s and so on (suitable for advanced to expert users). You only have to read it and it is always good to know what you have installed/running. After that you can ask questions if you need. There is at least one thread about remapollo on this board you should have a look. A APollo social group also exists here.

The problem is with "someone give you a guide" is that nobody knows your system in detail, but you do (I hope). And all the dependance`s that may occur.
