It's very flexible and easy to route and has built in active terminators at each end which you need with a CS MKIII or CS PPC
Hi can someone please link me to an item similar to above. i plan on connecting a scsi cdrw drive. one more question, if i connected a scsi hard drive, would this be recognised at boot up? if so then i will move to scsi hard drive too. many thanks

edit: do amigakit sell anything similar to the ebay item above?

Hi

I had a quick look on ebay. Are these okay? would the SCSI hard drive be recognised on bootup?

Please give us more info.. What SCSI controller etc..

Usually Amiga SCSI controllers are autoconfiguring and autobooting, so you can just plug the drive into your SCSI bus, make partitions and format it.

All the cables you found are suitable for use with the CSMK3.

Normal hd partitioning and formatting instructions apply. csppc.device or cybscsi.device, can't remember which. :-)

Oh and from the manual:
Quote:
The CYBERSTORM MKIII SCSI controller doesn't have an own active termination, as there are too many possible custom configurations. The termination will be done either with SCSI devices at the end of the chain, or – in case only one SCSI device is connected to the SCSI bus – with an additional active terminator.
Make sure you terminate properly.

Hi

Thanks for that. just 2 more questions:

1 if i use a scsi hd instead of the normal a4000 ide one would this scsi hd be recognised on bootup?

2 is it possible to use a scsi hd more than 4gb without the aid of a hack?

Naturally.. You own the fastest and best scsi controller ever made for any Amiga, it better be able to autoboot. :-D

Once you have your SCSI disk configured and boot from it, you will realise why no-one uses IDE. [1]

Yes, just use a td64 compatible filesystem, such as sfs or pfs3. Any size partitions, any size disks.

[1] I realise many people indeed still use IDE, but they obviously haven't used an Amiga with SCSI.

Right so when you talk about terminator you are talking about:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/U320-LVD-SE-SC...QQcmdZViewItem

Is there anyway to get the cable and terminator from a computer specialist site (rather than ebay)?

These are very generic parts. At least here in Finland I can go to a computer store and buy them, or I can go to an online computer store and order them without thinking about it too much.

Ebay will probably be cheaper, though. SCSI stuff has always been a bit expensive when bought new.

@CU_AMIGA
just make sure you get an ACTIVE terminator and not a passive one.

if you are unsure just query the seller on ebay.

Are there passive 68pin terminators? I didn't know they existed. :-)

Some random unattributed quote: "An LVD terminator is an active terminator by definition."

passive 68pin terminators do exist... just usually a black box crimped on the end of the scsi ribbon cable. if you have one or two devices and a short span of cable this shouldn't be a problem, however, you might find that your transfer rates might not be what they should.

i always terminate on the device, as they should have active termination by default.
But be carefull, a narrow scsi (50pin) device (like a CDrom) plugged into a 68pin cable, at the end of the chain, won't terminate the upper 8 data lines. if you can't fit another hard disk on there, then you'll need something to terminate the bus fully.
