Hark! A TOSEC mistake be revealed.

Was doing some intensive examining work with the Brian the Lion ADFs when I noticed a perculiarity in the process.

It seems this seemingly innocent little tyke:

Code:
Brian the Lion (1994)(Psygnosis)(Disk 3 of 3).adf
...is in fact a Ports of Call disk. No, really.

Two things you should know:

1) There appear to be a lot of disk block errors.
2) It doesn't match any of the PoC ADFs in the current TOSEC.

So come on, who wishes to own up?

This is such a disk, which i would remove from TOSEC.(but i can not)
You really dont know, if it should be a "Brian" disk or a "POC" disk.
Anyway the disk get [b] flag.

Don't much feel like making another thread, so I thought I should discuss another disk also...

Code:
Captain Dynamo (1992-07-17)(Codemasters).adf
This is exactly what it claims to be of course , but it's an uncracked ADF meaning that the "ring this number and get an unlock code" screen will pop up. Perhaps there should be a tag to inform people of this? Not sure what would be best mind you.

Funnily enough, I'm wondering if this is the same ADF (as well as the James Pond beta) that I contributed on this very board almost a decade ago.

What's that, Lassie? Another case of mistaken identity? Oh, the humanity!

Code:
Blastar (1993)(Core)(Disk 3 of 3)[cr FLT].adf
This certainly looks nothing like a Blastar disk. I couldn't tell what it was straight away, so decided to WRip and decrunch the contents and determine its true identity from there. And I can proudly inform you that it's a Woody's World disk. Possibly the missing third disk of the PDX crack? Haven't really played the game to confirm as such.

While we're on the subject of Blastar...

Code:
Blastar (1993)(Core)(Disk 2 of 3)[cr Triton].adf
This looks more like a Disk 3 to me, if what I see in a hex editor is correct.
But then that leaves one wondering where the second disk for the Triton crack could be...

ad "Captain Dynamo":

if the [cr] tag is missing (like here), it MAY be assumed it's a version featuring a protection which needs some additional resources to bypass: code lists, code wheel, original manual, ... and the like.
The name is fine.

It might be untampered and thus identical to disk 2 from another crack. "Crack" doesn't imply by 100% that EACH disk of the set had to be tampered with; it often happens, that one of the disks is completely unchanged.
To prove this, see certain "disk 2"'s and "disk 3"'s of IPF releases which turned out to exactly match those of TOSEC "crack" sets.

Some ADFs however do use a unique tag to determine whether manual or codewheel protection still exists on them, like "[cp manual code]".

Interesting advice, andreas. But don't forget that each Blastar disk showcases a unique ID ("BLASTARxB") inside the header of each ADF image, hence how I was able to determine which disk was which.

Looked at the Blastar/Woody's World disk again, and after comparing with the Woody's World disks currently on TOSEC, I'm now convinced that this is in fact the third disk for the Paradox crack of WW. Glad I could solve another case.
