MakeCD and BurnIt are the two famous (commercial) burning programs for the Amiga.

Frying Pan is a free alternative but does not work too good.

Hum, just see that FP is not free any longer, so IMHO it is not an alternative any longer, either.

@Keropi
As others have said, MakeCD and BurnIt are very good for CD burning. In terms of DVD burning, give Frying Pan a go for yourself. I'm not sure why you would bother too much with DVD burning on Amiga, though, because your PC will almost certainly do it quicker and better. No doubt you will say that you want to do it on Amiga just because you can!

BTW there's also another DVD burning utility called DVDRTools. It's older than Frying Pan and CLI only as it's a Linux port.

Edit: Hello Retroman

It hasn't been free for a long time. The free version on Aminet was a very early beta version that only had CD support, which unsurprisingly had bugs. The shareware version is reasonably good as far as DVD burning software goes on Amiga which, as you would expect, is not well-catered for.

Not an alternative? Why not? It is shareware and a demo version is available for evaluation on the author's website. Have you even tried it for yourself?

They have a GUI.......can't really sell commercial apps like these without one. The websites for these products are as follows:

http://makecd.core.de/

http://www.burnit.info/

You can download the demo versions from there and give them a try also.

Note: Ignore what Titan say about Burnit 3.0 DVD on the website. They make it sound like they've released it and it can be bought, but it's still in development and may prove to be vapourware in the end if the coder can't find some time to finish it.

fryingPan works very well here and burns DVDs at an awesome speed. No need for a PC at all :-)

What requirements are there for burning using makecd? I have a Yamaha 4x caddy drive I would like to burn backups with on my Amiga 2000HD (Workbench 2.05 ,GVP 68030/40 with 16MB RAM)?

Your set-up should be fine, even using WB 2.05. The MakeCD docs don't speak of minimum requirements, just about whether various CD burners are supported or not (Yamaha burners are well-supported). Give the demo a whirl and let us know if you run into problems.

Can I ask what your Amiga set-up is (i.e. Amiga type, IDE controller, DVD brand and model)? I'd like to put a DVD burner in my A4000T/060/PPC and want to know:

(a) Is the C= IDE controller is up to the task?

(b) Does Frying Pan support any of the 16x DVD burners?

@DrBong

I have an AmigaOne XE-G4 running under AmigaOS4. My DVD writer is a LiteOn SOHW-1673S plugged on a PCI IDE controller. And yes fryinGpan is working at full speed. But it might be different on a slower Amiga.

cutting in to convey:

my A4000T/060/PPC has installed a slightly different
revision and it works fine for burning cds and dvds

it's the DVDRW SOHW-1693S (LiteOn 16x)

btw, can you upload the shareware version of FP you mention above? that is, not the demo version but an earlier usable version I hope

I suspected as much. There's no way that classic Amigas will burn at high speeds with standard IDE controllers. Probably doubtful even using the Elbox Fast ATA IDE controllers because the CPU still needs to do some grunt work.

Old and quite poor IMHO.

The original release I spoke of wasn't shareware. It was free, a bit buggy and only burnt CDs. It's on Aminet:

http://aminet.net/package.php?packag.../FryingPan.lha

BTW are you using the registered/shareware demo version of Frying Pan with your LiteOn DVD burner or something else?
