This requiremnet thing, Stainy....is it not a perfect illustration of why game coding has become so illogical? I mean, to play a admiteddly simple game as this, requires 16 MB graphic card? At least 500Mhz to a Gig CPU?? I wonder what he used to code it. Thanks for the link pal!

I agree - the systems requirements do seem a bit harsh.
Here is a quick review by myself..... I have just had a quick play and the first thing that struck me was how much like Sensible Soccer (SS) it is. By that - I mean all of the graphics and sound appear to have been lifted out of SS. You could call this plagurism, but I do admire the fact that someone has taken the time to write this - and maybe he just cannot do graphics. I am not sure how the guy's at Sensible would feel about this, but maybe it's a compliment on just how right they got the graphics for their game. Now, I'd have thought in these modern times it'd be better to have SS sized graphics but with more colours, less jagginess and even more realistic sound - you could have megabytes of crowd chants ! The gameplay seems OK but I notice that a player with a ball is just a fast as a player with no ball - so if you're in possesion and are being chased you won't be caught - in real life you can run quicker without a ball. You cannot control the goalkeepers. I don't like the Kick-Off style passing. It seems a bit slower than SS on the Amiga, but I understand the author is looking at speed issues. Overall I'd recommend you try this if you are a SS fan. But if you still have an Amiga or get good results with WinUAE then I wouldn't recommend ditching SS yet ! I am assuming this game will be freeware ? I think it would be wrong to release as shareware/commercially because: A - He would be making money by reselling graphics/sounds he hasn't created. B - It's not good enough, and after all it is a lesser imitation of a 8 year old game that can be picked up for nothing. But I will definitely revist this game once it is complete - it would be funny for me and my old friends to have a SS reunion party like the old days ! |

Talking
I`ve been chatting to the coder alot this evening.. and he`s trying to combine all his previous football pasts.. Things he liked from KO and Player Manager and Footballer of the year etc..
I don`t think he ripped the sound and graphics from SS.. but I may be wrong.. The Player Manager aspect of the game does look good though.. I reckon! I get caught when I`m on the ball? no problems there. This isn`t a SS remake.. this seems to be a best bits of alot of footy games.. |

But if he did draw graphics why didn't he draw them better with more colours and less jagged lines ? Put it this way - if somehow this game made millions and Sensible Software took him to court I think the Sensi graphics designer would get a fair amount of the royalties ! |

Your computer is not slow compared to his requirements, D Jay.
Over double the RAM and double the speed of the Graphics processor. |

The screenshots on that page made me think it was 3D. What's with this blurry background fixation on PC games? So many of the screens try to do that perspective thing and it just looks like someone fucking with Gaussian Blur in Photoshop and using bitmapped textures (also a memory hog, when done wrong, which is almost always.) If I played PC games and went to that page, I'd still pass it by. Why would I need a bloatware version of SS?

Honestly, I can't stand SS or Kick Off. Both were ugly and arcadey. I much prefer EA's FIFA series.

3DO
Baloney. Or if you are Italian, bologna. Or, if you are really Italian, Sopresatta. Or Polish, Keilbasa. Anyway, the best soccer game I ever played was fifa on 3DO. Now that is incomparable.

FIFA makes me want to puke !
You can easily play by just moving the pads and pressing random buttons. It's a shame FIFA ever existed as this is how kids view how a good football game is supposed to be these days. If the average 8 year old saw Sensible Soccer he'd probably turn it off before playing it as "the graphics are crap and not 3D". This is not right and I blame FIFA ! In fact I wish all the FIFA ROM's were like the FIFA organisation itself - corrupt ! |

Fifa in 3DO was top-notch.
I like Fifa 94 and Fifa 95 on Mega-drive, and Fifa on 3DO all other Fifa I played were cack. |

Yeah, FIFA on the Amiga is poor...VERY poor. Lack of buttons I think. But on the Megadrive? Awesome! I guess SS and KO were better than FIFA on AMiga, but thats not saying much.

And Fifa is as arcade as Sensi (Or maybe even more), but slow as hell. Sensi at least is fast |

FIFA on the Megadrive was blazing fast, dude. But the Amiga one was torporic. Don't even bother trying it on the SNES. Choppy animation, at least the early ones.
