Is that the .nrg or the .mdf image type?

Both of those types of images can be loaded via a virtual DVD drive. I use Daemon tools myself.

I think it is the .nrg image file format.

.mdf (Media Descriptor File) is the Alcohol 120% Data Container format.
.mds (Media Descriptor Sidecar) is the Alcohol 120% Track Description file format which is already supported by WinUAE.

Thanks Anna, I haven't used Nero in years. Is it still available?

There is a NRG to ISO convertor available as well.

Though this is a bad idea for multi-track games. Never ever convert a Raw dump to a standard ISO. All CDDA tracks, intros etc are lost or worse (it doesn't work at all.).

Yes, Nero is still available.

chdman support and convert the .nrg image format.
WinUAE support the converted .chd images.

A proper way to convert Nero images is to mount it in Daemon Tools and then create a Bin/Cue with Imgburn. Problem solved.

The reason why I prefer the .chd format is the compression (CD Flac/LZMA/Deflate)

So....

chdman createcd --input "Fantastic Voyage.nrg" --output "Fantastic Voyage.chd"

would convert .nrg to chd?

What about the .mdf/mds format, does chdman convert those?

Yes, the parameter for the command line and the .nrg file are correct.
chdman support .cue, .toc, .gdi, .nrg and .iso files only.
Alcohol 120% (.mdf/.mds) and CloneCD (.ccd) files are not supported.

PS: WinUAE support CloneCD (.ccd) images.

Nero comes with a good image mounter and I think you can do all the nrg 2 iso & cue within it.

I thought if there were no audio etc just 1 track nrg and iso are the same but its been a while.

It seems something is wrong with .nrg to .chd conversion.
The converted images are not working.
I will contact Arbee about this problem.

Arbee (thanks for the fast feedback) wrote:

NRG support is quite fragile and may only work with specific versions of Nero.

The only problem for me is that I use Daemon Tools to mount CD images and .CHD doesn't seem to be supported, I can't get them to mount.

There is no need to mount it in Daemon Tools. WinUAE can load a .CHD image directly via "Select image file".

Why should it be complicated to operate if it can be done the easy way!
