How to install LHA-files from aminet
Hi guys
I'm running stock WB3.1 on an Amiga 1200. I'm still "re"-learning how to use the Amiga and now I'm stuck at installing LHA-files. I have downloade Term from Aminet: http://aminet.net/package/comm/term/Term But how on earth do you install it? |

Assuming you don't have a hard disk, you have to download and unpack Lha(http://aminet.net/package/util/arc/lha) to a disk or RAM: and run it, something like: lha x (path/name of archive) muadib Amiga Raytracing Society amigaraytracers.com |

you need to install lha (http://aminet.net/package/util/arc/lha) into c directory of your workbench disk.
in order to see c folder, you need to navigate to workbench menu > window > show files > show all files. if you unpack lha to ram:, it's not installed, only temporarily and gone after you shut down your amiga. |

1) Download and copy this to your Amiga: http://aminet.net/util/arc/lha.run (it's a self-extracting LHA archive, which contains the actual LHA programs for differecnt CPUs) 2) Open the shell and cd into the dir you have the "lha.run" file. Run the file by typing: lha.run 3) As you have A1200, a safe bet is to install 020 version to your system. Type in the shell: Copy lha_68020 C:lha 4) Now you can unarchive any LHA archive by typing: lha x archive.lha destinationdir (for example: lha x term.lha ram: ) |

It means AmigaDOS critical error.
Not very helpful I know. Disk Write protected? Doesn't have enough space? Insufficient RAM? lha.run file not transferred correctly? |

Got plenty of disk space and RAM, tried a few lha.run files (made adf, copied to c to run)
So now trying to install directly from lha68k but installed 68020 and I have a 68030. Going to try installing lha_68k to the C drive and see how I go |

lha.run and lha_68k.lha have the same contents. The only difference is that lha.run is a self-extracting executable while lha_68k.lha needs an older version of lha or another lha-upacker already installed. Both archives contain several versions of lha for different CPU types. lha_68020 is the best for a 68030 CPU. Keep it in C and rename it to lha.

thank you. Yeah its because I couldn't get lha.run to install. Put it in C, renamed it lha and have run the shell but it's failing the extraction, saying the lhas are corrupt.
Might need to revist in the morning. |

I think you have incorrectly set the MAX TRANSFER size on your IDE hard drive partition.
Confirm but it should be 0x1FE00 If it is larger than that you'll have to re-partition, re-format and re-install AmigaOS. If it is set higher than 0x1FE00 it will seem like it works but it files larger than a certain size will corrupt the disk. |

Interesting, how do I set / check that?
Also, just tried running lha.run directly off the adf image and it worked, but didn't install it on C. If I drag lha.run off the adf image into C to run it, it says archive is corrupt. |

HDToolBox. It's part of AmigaOS/Workbench. Find the icon, double click, select your HDD, look at the settings, one will be MaxTransfer
https://johan.driessen.se/posts/Sett...ile-system.png It's run as part of the process of installing AmigaOS from floppy onto HDD. If you installed your HDD in WinUAE you may not noticed the wrong setting until you start writing large files on real Amiga. Copying lha.run from floppy to HDD for example. Or extracting from lha files |
