68010 for my A2000 - Anyone got one loose on hand?
Hello,
I've posted before, but I'm relatively new to amiga's all around. So I'm still learning about all that I can because I think they're neat. I'm also 20+ years younger than most amiga users so Anyways. A few moments ago I was reading on the different release cycles on the A2000. One with the OCS and 1.2 or 1.3, what I have, and the ECS release with AOS 2.0 and a 68010. I knew the CPU was just drop in but I didn't think it'd have an UPGRADE. So now I'm excited. Without any hacky soldering that I KNOW I'll screw up, I can do an original upgrade!! But I'm in the states and finding one here is as easy as school for an autistic kid. The only 68010's I can see are sold in industrial hardware lots from mainframes being broken down or powerstations getting an upgrade. While a computer processing board out of a mini computer from a power station would be cool, a 68010 isn't worth 400 bucks to me. But 80 - 100...... So now, I ask, does anyone here have a 68010 loose you'd be willing to sell to a yank? Thanks!! -Dommer |

This won't speed up your computer in any meaningful way. Additionally, a 68010 is not 100% compatible to an '00.
If you want to upgrade your A2000, get a '20 accelerator board with an IDE port and some memory. Those should be less than 200 bucks and installation is almost as easy as changing the processor. |

I put a 68010 in an A500. Very little speed up and too many problems for it to be worth the bother.

There's only one reason to get an 010, and that's to be able to quit WHDLoad games.

You should find one on Amibay for less than 50 bucks, it's a token upgrade though, worth 5-10 percent in sysinfo, and no noticeable difference in real terms.
I put one in a 500 and haven't had any problems though. And it's always fun to upgrade... |

Yeah you're totally right, I'm out by a factor of 10 - I bought one off Ebay a couple of months ago and just checked the price: $6.33 AUD.
I must remember: think THEN type... So yeah, not a huge improvement, but super cheap and a drop-in upgrade. |

There is a small patch for increasing the compatibility with the 000
http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/Decigel Should be useful for some older games. |
