Is Lotus II Linkup Possible???
Does anybody know if it is possible to get the serial link to work on 2 PC's in WinUAE so that we can play 4 player Lotus again???
If not is there an emulator that supports the serial side of the Amiga, maybe Fellow? We tried the other day with Serial Cable, Null Modem and a 9 to 25 pin convertor. No luck though :-( Any reason why this would not work? |

Re: Is Lotus II Linkup Possible???
I tried moreless a year ago to connect my miggy and my pc with a null modem, but nothing worked together ( i think there was 8.17 ).
I really don't know. Quote:

Unfortunately many serial link games use Amiga specific 9-bit serial mode (1 start bit + 9 data bits + 1 stop bit) which PC serial ports can't handle.
But next WinUAE release may work with some games (rewritten and much more compatible serial port emulation) |

Good news, you can ignore my previous post because both Stunt Car Racer (uses 9-bit mode) and Lotus 2 (regular 8-bit mode) now work in serial link mode.
Probably all other link games work too but only those two are tested and confirmed working. I implemented simple hack that doubles the external PC baud rate and sends 9-bit data in two bytes, then receiving end simply collects the two bytes and merges them back to 9-bit data. All this happens transparently. Unfortunately PC hardware limitation makes it impossible to connect PC running emulator to real Amiga and run programs that use 9-bit mode. and before someone asks: Yes, routing serial port to network is possible and may be done someday... |

No, sorry. Not interested enough and Lotus II most likely never works without doing it Kaillera-style. (Game requires really low delays)

From what Toni Wilen says (a few posts above), Stunt Car Racer already works.
Has anybody actually connected two PCs with a serial cable and tried it yet? I would try it myself but I only have one working monitor available at the moment. S |

shame Toni isnt interested in this or even shared-emulator linkup. i could both being very popular features, and used a lot more than some of the other stuff which winuae already has. |

I Agree, that would be a really great feature. Similar to kaillera but with better WinUAE. It makes really great fun to play over lan. I Sometime play Sensible Soccer that way.

couldnt they be linked with network host / join anyway? kaillera type stuff?
real shame though, this would probably be more handy to anyone than anything that can be added currently to winuae |
