soldering flux

Can I use Plumbers flux to solder SMD caps to a board? I've got the yellow stuff and some white flux which is great for soldering copper pipes.

I suspect it wouldn't be the best plan. Solder paste is usually acid based so might hurt the PCB - most soldering flux is Rosin based.

Check eBay for Topnik RF800 - it's pretty cheap and very good!

I've got 2 types of solder on my van, LA-CO which is non acid & non toxic and powerflux for lead free solder. The powerflux is easily the best for copper pipes but it looks like the LA-CO should be OK. Thoughts?

The powerflux has a PH <2. The LA-CO doesn't say what it's PH is but claims non acidic. I'd prefer to use what I've got instead of buying something I'll never use again.

I can also recommend Topnik RF800. No idea about plumbing solder.

Do not use plumbers solder under circumstances it will eat the board up and create a mess, Topnik RF800 liquid flux is great cheap flux. a little goes a long way

DO NOT EVER use plumbing solder or flux on electronic components! Buy some proper flux, it'll only cost you a few dollars.
