Cut down re-released games?

There are at least 2 Amiga games which were cut down when re-released on budget category. Project X Special Edition had the final level and outro removed (to fit on 3 disks instead of 4 in original release) and Lemmings had few special levels removed to fit on one disk.

Are there any other titles which were cut down in their budget form (smaller boxes, shorter inlays etc. don't count)?

Hoi got more levels than Hoi remix. Dennis that was with my a1200 in box got less levels than standalone box release.

Nice thread!

Project X SE first stage also misses the missiles part. Apart from that, Team 17 "special editions" heavily change game mechanics/levels, without cutting down the game.

X-out budget has the intro removed (fits on 1 disk)

Some budget releases of Carrier Command are missing the music. On the original, the music is a ~400KB sample on side 1 of the disk. The re-releases were crunched and (from memory) had Rob Northen protection added.

If you boot the budget version, then swap the disk with an original release Carrier Command after the game has loaded, it does still play the music. (Otherwise the budget version grinds the drive as it periodically looks for the music, but the tracks aren't in the right format.)

And the original has a built-in disk copier which is missing from the re-release.

Benefactor on cd32 lacks hi-score screen and lemming level lacks lemming song if You compare it to floppy version.

Syndicate AGA version went from 4 disks to 2 disks. Still a great game, it's a shame they didn't try to double the palette for the AGA release.

@mark_k Kixx re-release of Carrier Command has two versions (Amiga and PC) on 1 disk, so there was probably not enough space for music

@redblade Is there an AGA version of Syndicate? HOL lists only ECS and CD32 versions.

@redblade @PopoCop The 2 disk is a budget release is it not? Not AGA and with missing missions.

Xenon 2 went from 2 disk to 1 disk - not sure what they left out.

Xenon 2 1-disk is the same as on 2 disks. Better compression (RNC probably) and $1800 bytes tracks (RN longtrack without copylock) instead of standard $1600 bytes tracks with RNC copylock.

Adds a lot of extra space (more than 80kilobytes, plus compression) so everything fits in and no disk swapping

Yes It's a ECS version on 2 disks, minus intro and finishing?? Was released with the A1200.

I believe that Assassin (another Team 17 game) got a Special Edition where some levels were cut, had the difficulty lowered and the iconic boomerang weapon got replaced with a laser gun.

I think they call it patching these days
