newicon resizing...

I have quite a few WHD/JST games which come complete with pretty newicons. Unfortunately since my amiga runs at 640x256 (PAL TVres) the icons look a bit stretched. Is there a way to shrink/scale the icon so it is in better proportion? perhaps using dpaint? I have fuffed around with it a bit but had no luck...

Personal Paint can save directly to NewIcons. HOwever stretching them will look ugly.

NewIcons are made for square pixel screen ratios, something 640x256 isn't. You should consider making your own icons perhaps. With PPaint is dead easy

This proggy will create an icon (colour of grey) from a picture, so take a snapshot of the title screen of the game and chuck it through Image2Icon

You can choose the number of colours, size of the icon, dither type etc..

And what are you doing up at 3:21 a.m. young lady? you should be in bed (preferably mine)

The service Severin describes is already built into the classicwb. From the menu, select Icon->PictureIcon. Take a snapshot and drag the resultant pic onto the programs icon.

It will create an icon from the pic using the same number of colours you currently have workbench set to.
