CDTV drive doesn't work (EDIT: possible solution found)
Some years ago I bought a used CDTV. When I turned it on it showed the CDTV animation, so I supposed it was ok. I didn't have a caddy or software, so I didn't test the cdrom drive.
Today I tried to load an audio cd (and a cdrom)... Doesn't work. Symptoms: When I insert the caddy with a cd, the led right of the drive lights, the cd turns about an inch and stops. After some seconds the led switchs off and I hear a short motor noise (like the lens returning to its original position or something like that. The cd never reallly starts spinning and the display just shows the CDTV animation. Things I've checked: - Loading the caddy a number of times doesn't help - The drive's flatcable is plugged in - Lotus Turbo challenge starts from an external floppy drive, no problems there. Could it be that the lens just needs cleaning? Does anyone have an idea what else could be the case? Otherwise I will have to get used to the depressing idea of owning a CDTV with a dead drive for which there are no replacements :-S Last edited by Pres; 25 September 2018 at 22:14. |

Update:
A knowledgeable person just told me that if the disc only turns a fraction of a second, the cause may very well be some bad caps and recapping the drive may save my CDTV. He found this solution on a German forum: http://www.amigawiki.de/doku.php?id=...r%3Aecaps_cdtv |
