VirtualGP without CD

Hello!

I bought some months ago the last copy available on Alinea of VirtualGP. I am not able to put a CD DRIVE into my A1200 so, theorically I couldn't play this game, because it has CD Protection and it needs the CD to be inserted.

Do you know if there is some patch to play this game without CD from the HD or Compact Flash?

Regards,

PS: Talking about games... it's possible to play Genetic Species from HD? I am only able to play it from the CF renaming the label.

Yes. The 'Start Game' script should have 'assign genetics: ""' as the first line, so it should run without problems from your HD. Which error do you get when you try to start it from HD?

The only "error" I receive is about the name of the unit, so I will follow your instructions.

Thanks!

Hope it'll work. If not, would be great if you could explain how you start the game (CLI or WB, which script/executable)

Make a CD image and mount it with diskimage or isomount.

Yes! You're right! My memory fails sometimes. Thanks! I'll check them.

Just got this sucker working using DiskImage! I was having trouble first even running the game but after installing the 1.0d patch I got into the game itself.

Then it wanted to use RTG-screenmode but that was garbled and slow, so I wanted to use good' ol AGA. To force AGA in lo-res mode (it always wants to use RTG if it finds one!) NewMode promotion did the trick (PAL low-res). I also got it to run on NTSC screenmode so that the game covers whole screen, but it fails most of the times. So PAL it was.

I also made a custom mouse pointer just for this game because otherwise the pointer image is burned onto the screen while playing, so a single grey dot pointer was born!

????? I bought this when it was released and have had it installed on HD ever since. It runs fine with no need to insert a CD, although I must admit that I never really got into it, so it has not been playtested thoroughly... Unless the CD has been changed it can be installed manually. Just copy all the files onto your HD - I think you can delete all the files starting ZZZZZZZ -they appear to be padding.
Then start the game with a script like this:

stack 20000
assign VGP_DATA: ""
VGP

Thanks I try this out . The game seems to be a nice little racer. How can you turn off the wobbling of the screen when you're in the cockpit view and try to turn? Now I use the rear view that is activated by pressing F3.
