A4000 IDE Compatiable DVD RW Drive

Mods, if this belongs in Hardware Probs etc please move.

I now have 1 DVD recorder and 2 DVD Players, one supports DivX etc..

I have decided I need a DVD/RW for my A4000 computers and started inquiring today. For the moment I intend to use the linux port of DVDRecord and whatnot...

It appears I can not get hold of:

Lite On LDW - 811s DVD+/-RW in this country...

do they still make these drives?

does anyone use a different drive which is available today?

in time I will acquire something similair for the cyberstorm UW scsi... but for the meantime I'd be quite happy with the slower transfers of the IDE since I can then have one drive in a few of my A4000s etc...

any help will be appreciated... thanks

I'm looking to buy the drive or something similiar

but prefer brand new...

the similiar discussion could be interpreted as advice

so both I suppose?

Slayer, if you´re in need for a scsi DVDburner then why not hunt for an IDE-to-SCSI interface ??? Then you can connect the IDE burner to your Cyberstorm scsi

By the way, just found this Lite-On 8x Internal DVD+/-RW Drive (LDW-811S) on Ebay in the US and they seem to be willing to ship worldwide ... is it that what you were asking for

Sounds like a plan Effy but that was for later on... I've only got one UW scsi afterall...

ide 2 uwscsi3? what exactly would that piece of hardware
be called?

and yes, that was the burner I was after but after all that I got a better one...

just looking at one of the other threads I recall I posted that I wanted a CybervisionPPC once also... got no reply...

so this 4000 board thing would that fit in my A4000 power
tower and the voodoo3 would plug into that and then how
much graphic power are we talking comparing to the likes
of the CVPPC?

Actually Slayer your experience of being able to burn DVD's off your 4000 may answer a question member Kasle1 was asking over useable DVD burning programs on the Amiga platform.

Any chance you could expand how you set the linux side to use linux port of DVDRecord in a working A4000 set up as a tutorial piece in a seperate thead if you can find the time ?

Slayer : "Such overwhelming assistance... heh" I agree on Woody57´s request !! I also would love to see your Linux running on one of my A4000´s !!!

And about the Mediator thing for the A4000, I would like to refer to the one and only Elbox website http://www.elbox.com/ The have all the info you need and also an online shop. Shipping costs are really not too high and sometimes they have a promotion period with even lower or even no shipping costs
